A Rediscovered Frontier describes the changing land use issues taking place in the rapidly growing western United States, paying special attention to the previously unexplored area of private lands planning and local growth management. A Rediscovered Frontier begins by exploring the term 'New West', describes prototypical land use patterns found throughout the West, and examines the spatial circumstances of rural and small town growth patterns. Intended as a text for college students taking courses in land use planning, a sourcebook for land use planning and environmental management professionals, as well as anyone who cares about western environments, A Rediscovered Frontier addresses the social, economic, political, and above all, geographical realities of land use in the West today.

Urban Regeneration Community Power And The In Significance Of Race written by Paul J. Maginn and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-11-30 with Science categories.

The concepts of community consultation and participation have come to dominate academic and policy debate about urban regeneration partnerships. However, there has been relatively little discussion about the nature of 'community power' within regeneration partnerships. Adopting an ethnographic approach in the study of community participation and power and the significance of 'race' in three ethnically diverse neighbourhoods in London, this book highlights that there has been a 'pluralistic turn' in British urban regeneration policy. Local communities, often portrayed as the least powerful partner within partnerships, are shown to use various strategies to influence decision-making, thus giving rise to a new typology of pluralism - 'pragmatic'; 'hyper-' and 'paternalistic'. Furthermore, the significance of 'race' (and racism) within community forums and regeneration partnerships is challenged. The playful use of the term (In) Significance in the title is linked to the argument that, although racism exists, 'race' does not always matter.

Community Economic Development written by Graham Haughton and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-12-16 with Architecture categories.

This important book examines the ways in which community economic development can contribute to local and regional regeneration. It presents a unique overview of the state of contemporary British practice in this important policy area and provides a series of fresh, theoretical, methodological and empirical insights which help us to understand ways in which communities are facing up to the challenges of devising and bringing about their own revitalisation. Community Economic Development is underpinned by the argument that much conventional regeneration work represents at best a short-term fix rather than a long-term sustainable solution to the problems of socially excluded communities. The emphasis of the book is largely on the British experience with contributions from a rich mix of new and established academics and practitioners.

The New Localism written by Edward G. Goetz and has been published by SAGE Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993-10-07 with Science categories.

How have local economic conditions been affected by the emergence of a global economy? What changes, if any, have local political authorities made to counterbalance the new emphasis on world interests? Comprehensive and timely, The New Localism answers these and other vital questions by exploring local political restructuring in the face of massive global economic change. Prominent urban scholars cover the privatization of local politics, the emergence of local economic and social activism, and increased competition--on both local and national levels. This important volume examines various levels of development in such diverse political settings as the United States, the United Kingdom, Eastern Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean. The New Localism is a must read for students and scholars of urban studies, comparative politics, political science, third world development, planning, public administration, and sociology. "Goetz and Clarke′s book brings a useful perspective to this literature, not so much because of its theoretical originality, but for its didactic value. It is a straightforward presentation of cases of urban restructuring, well integrated within a common conceptual framework labelled "new localism" --Canadian Journal of Urban Research
