Delineating the huge strides taken in cosmology in the past ten years, this much-anticipated second edition of Malcolm Longair's highly appreciated textbook has been extensively and thoroughly updated. It tells the story of modern astrophysical cosmology from the perspective of one of its most important and fundamental problems – how did the galaxies come about? Longair uses this approach to introduce the whole of what may be called "classical cosmology". What’s more, he describes how the study of the origin of galaxies and larger-scale structures in the Universe has provided us with direct information about the physics of the very early Universe.

Jean-Pierre Vigier continually labeled one of les heretiques de la science, l’eternel resistant et le patriarche is yet a pillar of modern physics and mathematics, with one leg firmly planted in theory and the other in empiricism spanning a career of nearly 60 years with a publication vitae quickly approaching 400! He wrote of his mentor Louis de Broglie “Great physicists fight great battles”, which perhaps applies even more so to 1 Jean-Pierre Vigier himself . If fortune allows a visit to Paris, reported to be the city of love, and certainly one of the most beautiful and interesting cities in the world; one has been treated to a visual and cultural feast. For example a leisurely stroll from the Musee du Louvre along the Champs-Elysees to the Arc de Triomphe would instill even the least creative soul with the entelechies of a poets muse. It is perhaps open to theoretical interpretation, but if causal conditions have allowed one to be a physicist, visiting Paris, one may have taken opportunity to visit the portion of the old Latin quarter in place Jussieu where Pierre et Marie Curie Universite, reported to be ‘the best university in France’, is stationed.

For as long as humans have looked up at the night sky, stars have been our silent companions—guiding travellers, inspiring myths, and fueling our endless curiosity about the cosmos. "About the Stars" takes you on an illuminating journey through these celestial wonders, from their fiery birth in vast stellar nurseries to their dramatic transformations into black holes, neutron stars, or quiet white dwarfs. Along the way, we explore the mysteries of our Sun, the breathtaking beauty of nebulae, and the forces that shape the universe itself. Unlike books that merely skim the surface, this book delves deeper, offering a clear and engaging understanding of stars in a way that is both insightful and accessible. Complex concepts are unraveled into simple, digestible explanations, making even the most intricate stellar phenomena easy to grasp. While mathematics plays a role in astrophysics, this book prioritizes understanding over equations, ensuring that readers of all backgrounds can appreciate the grandeur of the cosmos without barriers. Whether you’re a seasoned stargazer, an aspiring astronomer, or simply someone who marvels at the night sky, "About the Stars" invites you to explore the universe in a new light. Through these pages, you’ll see the cosmos not just as a collection of distant points of light, but as a vast and interconnected story — one written in starlight.

The first part of a comprehensive overview of fundamental optical properties of III-nitride semiconductors. All optoelectronic applications based on III-nitrides are due to their unique optical properties and characterizations of III-nitrides. Much information, which is critical to the design and improvement of optoelectronic devices based on III-nitrides has been obtained in the last several years. This is the first of a two part Volume in the series Optoelectronic Properties of Semiconductors and Superlattices. Part I begins with time-resolved studies of semiconductors and moves on to the emphasis on time-resolved photoluminescence of nitride materials and device technology and focuses on Raman studies and properties of III Nitrides. This unique volume provides a comprehensive review and introduction of the defects and structural properties of GaN and related compounds. This would be excellent for newcomers to the field and is a stimulus to further advances for experienced researchers.III-Nitride Semiconductors: Optical Properties Part I combines contributions from active experts in the field with diverse backgrounds. This book provides a very important step in advancing the state of research and device development in the field of III-nitride materials.

General Relativity written by Nicola Vittorio and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-07-09 with Science categories.

This book provides General Relativity problems to be tackled both analytically and symbolically-numerically with the Mathematica software. In the first case, the reader is guided in setting up the appropriate solutions. In the second case, the reader is provided with very illustrative notebooks to carry out the steps necessary to solve a General Relativity problem. These include the calculation of the Christoffel symbols, Riemann, Ricci, Einstein and energy-momentum tensors, as well as the resolution of the field equations of General Relativity in different astrophysical/cosmological contexts, with and without the introduction of a cosmological constant. This study guide should be used alongside existing textbooks to provide additional learning and engagement opportunities for advanced undergraduate and graduate students in physics and astrophysics taking courses on general relativity. It may also be of interest to mathematics students interested in celestial mechanics and space sciences. A number of the Mathematica codes used in this book can be accessed online here; [INSERT URL WHEN AVAILABLE] Key Features: • Promotes the "learning by doing" approach, guiding the student in the building of the mathematical apparatus necessary to solve problems in General Relativity. • Encourages the development of analytical skills to address and solve specific and challenging problems in General Relativity. • Develops symbolic-numerical skills to address problems (often already solved analytically) so that the reader is prepared to attack even more elaborate calculations in General Relativity.

Planetary Motion written by P. Andrew Karam and has been published by Infobase Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-05-14 with Juvenile Nonfiction categories.

Thousands of years ago, people looked at the sky in wonder, fascinated by the motions of a few wandering stars. Nobody understood where these wandering objects--now named Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn--came from, why they moved, or what drove their motions through the sky. Today, people know these objects are planets, but the quest to reach this understanding took thousands of years, and the consequences were profound. Famous scientists Johannes Kepler, Edmund Halley, Isaac Newton, and others discovered the laws of gravity and planetary motion, using these laws to explain the workings of the solar system. Their findings allowed the human race to find its way from planet to planet with unmanned probes and eventually allowed people to reach the moon. In "Planetary Motion," learn how scientists have found new planets outside the solar system, and continue their search for planets like Earth.

Reality And Realisation written by Prajit Ghosh and has been published by Shabd Online Pvt Ltd this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-10-18 with Art categories.

Here is an expression of realisations from the knowledge of our existence, surroundings and the universe as a whole. Using advanced technologies researchers and scientists uncovering mysteries of unknown realities relentlessly. The immeasurable enormity of objects, energy and space-time variations exhibit how negligible and irrelevant our presence or existence. We are developing new science and technology continuously to observe the effects of the master program so precisely tuned to create from birth to death of living and nonliving beings on one side as well as magnificent, incomprehensibly huge, inquisitively wonderful universe governed by separate precise programs on the other side. This may have triggered the idea of a creator (for some almighty or god) willingly setting these programs faultlessly. This also brings in, idea of consciousness, mind, emotions or curiosity. Being agnostic I fail to accept even real evidences unquestionably. In following chapters I mentioned few realities presented by scientists which gave me most valuable realisations to be cherished. Interestingly we are struggling to find out existence of this enormous creation, but those magnificent objects never bother for our existence, lead to realize, “are we so insignificant?” This journey is obviously endless and engrossing.
