While geographic redundancy can obviously be a huge benefit for disaster recovery, it is far less obvious what benefit is feasible and likely for more typical non-catastrophic hardware, software, and human failures. Georedundancy and Service Availability provides both a theoretical and practical treatment of the feasible and likely benefits of geographic redundancy for both service availability and service reliability. The text provides network/system planners, IS/IT operations folks, system architects, system engineers, developers, testers, and other industry practitioners with a general discussion about the capital expense/operating expense tradeoff that frames system redundancy and georedundancy.

Most people say redundancy changes their lives for the better - make sure you are one of them! So you've been made redundant (or perhaps you just think it's coming)? Join the crowd! Redundancy is now a very common life experience. Almost a quarter of adults will be affected by redundancy during their lifetime. But you are not a victim. What matters now is how you react to this challenge. OVERCOMING REDUNDANCY contains advice from survivors, from people who have not only survived but turned it to their advantage. Many now look back on that redundancy experience, with hindsight, as the best thing that could ever have happened to them. You can use this book to benefit from their experiences and advice. Redundancy is an intensely emotional experience. It affects your self-esteem and motivation. You are only human if you feel a sense of anger, betrayal or loss. This book will help you cope with these social and emotional impacts of redundancy. It will also provide valuable tips of managing the financial impacts of redundancy. Most importantly it will help you look forwards, not backwards. If you've been made redundant, reading this book is the first step towards bouncing back! GORDON ADAMS is Managing Director of Alternative Futures Research Limited, a research company which specialises in helping businesses and individuals to change. He has spent over 30 years working for leading organisations like Thomas Cook, the BBC and Reed International. He overcame redundancy himself when he invested his redundancy payment to set up his own business. He has never looked back. The company which made him redundant went on to become one of his biggest clients. www.alternativefutures.biz

Redundancy, restructuring, downsizing. There are few, if any, other management books on this important topic, and yet the pace of redundancies has only accelerated in recent years. Coupled with this, many companies that implement redundancies as a cost-cutting exercise often fail to achieve their goal. Whilst viewed as an uncomfortable topic by many, guidance on how to implement a redundancy programme that is fair, proportionate and ultimately leads to improved organisational performance, has never been more needed. This book fills this important gap. It takes the reader through a redundancy implementation strategy – Re-Focus, Re-Organise and Re-Build – that incorporates the key aspects of planning and analysis, fairness and justice, and prepares management for redundancy implementation through training. What will your communications include? What will be your strategy for implementation? What training does your management need? Various helpful template examples are included for employee consultation, communication and training. The book will be invaluable for business managers, HR professionals, employee representatives and HR students.

The design of wastewater treatment plants with redundancy to assure a quality end product may be in conflict with efforts to assure effectiveness. Redundancy of major system components is to assure compliance with regulations and protection of the environment and the health and safety of the public and treatment plant staff. However, the capital costs and maintenance associated with redundant equipment does not necessarily enhance facility performance. There are a number of forces driving the level of redundancy in plant designs. Federal and state compliance regulations and the design engineer's past experiences will influence the plant design. To some extent the plant staff may also provide input into the plant design and, therefore, contributes to the redundancy. This report determines alternative methods to address treatment plant redundancy, including examples of methods currently in place and, ideally, insight on the premises leading to these applications. A secondary objective is to identify the similarities and differences in redundancy requirements associated with federal and state regulatory agencies.
