"At the Frontline of Covid-19 is an emotional account of the first Covid lockdown told by upbeat breast surgeon consultant, Ash, as he admits his struggle to adapt to pandemic life. From new equipment, frequent process shuffling, and heroes within the hospital, Ash reflects on his tales from the NHS frontline of the Covid response. With an entwined narrative from his wife, Jenny, who battles to preserve her hairdressing business during the pandemic, the two give an open account of family life as they navigate 'staying safe' during an unprecedented time. This accessible diary is as much about a family's repercussions of working within the medical profession during lockdown as well as the rapid changes that overtook the South-East hospitals. Sprinkled with heart-warming anecdotes and whimsical references, it is a good-humoured and honest account of work and family life during the pandemic"--

This book is a nonfiction endeavor that aims to capture a snapshot of what American society was like during the public health crisis of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Through a series of interviews featuring people who have struggled with loss, financial limitations, and working strenuous frontline jobs, the book aims to elucidate crucial voices who share their experiences of how they coped, persisted, and reflected during quarantines and lockdowns. These interviews, all of which have been transformed into a cohesive article/story-like format, also feature people who have pioneered change during the pandemic, such as PPE providers, nonprofit organizations, and heads of major institutions in education and healthcare. Hopefully, readers will be left with a scintilla of each person’s story and will reflect upon the lessons we have learned during the pandemic — lessons that remind us of the strength and intricacy of humanity.

Called For Such A Time As This written by Esther Osemwegie and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-09-12 with categories.

'Called For Such A Time As This' is based on the experience of a COVID-19 nurse who worked within several different NHS hospitals in the United Kingdom. The author, in her own words, gives a riveting account of her first unplanned encounter with COVID-19 patients. Her storytelling includes her fears, her tears, vulnerabilities, prayers and her strength during this journey. Esther knew that there was a divine calling on her decision making; duty bound, she accepted the call to action. Initially, she was afraid but later found strength and joy through her act of obedience. Her actions were inspired by her favourite biblical character and namesake Esther, hence the name of this book 'Called For Such A Time As This'. As we journey through the book we will read about her experiences, including her observations of the sufferings of patients who died alone in the hospital due to the restrictions on visits and the anxiety, fears and uncertainty of those who survived COVID-19. This work also acknowledges the ultimate sacrifice of the healthcare workers who died in the field, bound by duty, battling to save others. Esther has used this platform as an opportunity to talk about why certain groups of people are at particular risk to the virus, through extensive evidenced based research. As the reflections draw to a close, possibly the most unfortunate finding of all is that it is evident that thousands of COVID-19 survivors will need therapy and/or rehabilitation to address the physical and psychological insult inflicted upon them by COVID-19. The hope of this work is that on the other side of this pandemic, when all is said and done, our new normal will be to care and look after one another as Esther and the thousands of healthcare workers have shown us; we are all duty bound.

Honest and unfiltered, these are the stories from NHS key workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. These entries have been collated by two junior doctors that were redeployed to COVID wards and have spent much of this year making life and death decisions. They include heart-wrenching diary entries alongside thought-provoking poetry, giving us an insight into the mentality of those who have been spending most of their time caring for patients on the busy hospital wards. From the distressing to the hilarious, this collection will take you on a ride that is experienced by our medical staff daily. How did it feel to be around patients without adequate PPE, knowing you might be asymptomatic? When a patient's oxygen levels just won't increase, despite being on a ventilator, how did these healthcare workers prepare for that? The early days of the pandemic were a blur for all, from lockdown and conflicting information to the ever increasing death rate. These reflections give context and life to the largest societal shift since World War 2, apolitical and straight to the heart of the issue. With over 130 pages in the collection, 'National Health Stories: Tales from the front line' is the only way to gain a direct understanding of the effects of COVID-19, through the heartache and the emotional tax this virus has taken on our NHS heroes. Each sale of this book contributes directly to NHS Charities Together's Urgent Appeal to support patients and carers affected by the COVID pandemic.
