Ways Of Being In Teaching written by Sean Wiebe and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-09-13 with Education categories.

As teachers, we share experiences with one another. It is a way to make sense of our teaching lives and teaching selves. Ways of Being in Teaching is that kind of sharing; it is a scholarly conversation that will appeal to teachers who are tired of the tips and tricks, and want to talk more deeply about how to flourish in this profession. Most of us know ways to strengthen and sustain self, soul, heart, identity, and how these key touchstones also strengthen teaching. This book recognizes that who we are, where we are, and why, is as much a social process as a personal one. Attending to life purpose is a way of attending to teaching. Chapters in this text are insightfully forthright, challenging us to undertake the rigourous work of discovering who we are as human beings and how this impacts who we are with our students. Canadian curriculum scholar Cynthia Chambers asks us to listen for what keeps us awake at night, and with Ways of Being in Teaching we bring what we have heard into the daylight, into the conversation. “This collection of reflections and conversations does more than provide provocative reading for the reflective teacher. It invites practitioners to find their own place at the table of sharing and to welcome the stories that will certainly come as a result of engaging with this community of life writers.” – Carmen Schlamb, Professor, Seneca College

Education as if people and planet mattered In Transformative Learning, Satish Kumar reflects on the legacy of Schumacher College, a beacon of innovation that fosters an ecological-based, holistic model of higher education built around the college's unique "learn by doing," head, heart, and hands pedagogy. Over fifty current and former instructors and alumni, including Vandana Shiva, David Orr, Kate Raworth, Fritjof Capra, Bill McKibben, Mary Evelyn Tucker, and Jonathon Porritt, paint a rich picture of education for human well-being and the ecological health of the planet. Contributions delve deeply into the nature of transformational learning and holistic education, present a wealth of alumni experiences of working towards an ecological society, and detail the expansion of the Schumacher model to Belgium, Brazil, India, Japan, and beyond. The result is a rich tapestry of ideas and educational methods packed with insights and experience for practitioners and activists looking to build a just, ecological society.

Reflections On The Moral Spiritual Crisis In Education written by David E. Purpel and has been published by Peter Lang this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004 with Education categories.

This book takes a sharply critical view of contemporary society with a searing indictment of our morally and intellectually bankrupt educational system. Uniquely, the book contains both the original version of David Purpel's highly influential Moral and Spiritual Crisis in Education, first published in 1989, as well as an updated critique of that work - reflections from our current times of growing despair about the directions of education and the nation. Reflections on the Moral and Spiritual Crisis in Education focuses on the possibility - and necessity - of generating hope through the redemptive and energizing power of the human spirit.

From the Winner of the Grawemeyer Award in Education in 2007 "In the world of education reform, where silver-bullet ideas, ideologies, and intellectual fashion clamor for influence, James Comer's thinking has long been a sea of calm, balanced, and humane wisdom focused on the needs of the whole person. Reading Comer you see the incompleteness of so many other approaches to reform, as well as learn an integrated approach to making schools work. And now, here it all is in a single book. If you want to see how schools can actually work, as opposed to affiliate with a prior belief about how they should work, this is a must read." —Claude Steele, professor, the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University "The best introduction?professional and personal—to the remarkable world of James Comer: physician-educator, par excellence." —Howard Gardner, Hobbs Professor of Cognition and Education, Harvard Graduate School of Education, Cambridge, Massachusetts "James Comer is a rare constellation among social scientists: a great intellect, a keen analyst, a creative problem-solver and a man of enormous empathy. His writings are required reading for anyone interested in education reform or improving the odds for poor children." —Geoffrey Canada, president and CEO, Harlem Children's Zone

New Perspectives In Philosophy Of Education written by David Lewin and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-10-23 with Education categories.

New Perspectives in Philosophy of Education seeks to build a bridge between philosophical reflection and socio-political action by developing a range of critical discussions in the areas of ethics, politics and religion. This volume brings together established authorities and a new generation of scholars to ask whether philosophy of education can contribute to political and social discourse, or whether it is destined to remain the marginal gadfly of mainstream ideology. The philosophy of education stands in danger of becoming a neglected field at precisely the moment we need to be able to reflect upon the increasingly apparent costs of the technocratic attitude to education. While many of the educational policy discussions of recent years seem far-reaching and radical, critical debate surrounding these initiatives remain largely at a populist level. New Perspectives in Philosophy of Education provides contemporary responses to philosophical issues that bear upon educational studies, policies and practices, contributing to the debate on the role of philosophy of education in an increasingly fractured intellectual milieu.

This book engages ongoing debates about the nature, manifestation and purpose of entrepreneurship education (EE). It presents theoretical and practical perspectives on the challenges and opportunities that entrepreneurship educators face globally to equip undergraduate students with entrepreneurial skills, and more generally, develop their entrepreneurial mindsets and capabilities taking advantage of programmes and curricula available in their ecosystem. Divided into three sections, the chapters, written by recognized experts, deliver distinctive approaches to undergraduate EE, an analysis of entrepreneurial mindset-building perspectives, and cases and proposals of undergraduate entrepreneurship programs that go beyond the traditional higher education milieu. This volume provides entrepreneurship educators with a voice to explain how they participate in the topic of entrepreneurship, how undergraduate students engage and respond to EE, and how institutional frameworks for EE, and more generally the entrepreneurship education ecosystem, support undergraduate EE.

International Reflections On The Netherlands Didactics Of Mathematics written by Marja van den Heuvel-Panhuizen and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-08-13 with Education categories.

This open access book, inspired by the ICME 13 Thematic Afternoon on “European Didactic Traditions”, takes readers on a journey with mathematics education researchers, developers and educators in eighteen countries, who reflect on their experiences with Realistic Mathematics Education (RME), the domain-specific instruction theory for mathematics education developed in the Netherlands since the late 1960s. Authors from outside the Netherlands discuss what aspects of RME appeal to them, their criticisms of RME and their past and current RME-based projects. It is clear that a particular approach to mathematics education cannot simply be transplanted to another country. As such, in eighteen chapters the authors describe how they have adapted RME to their individual circumstances and view on mathematics education, and tell their personal stories about how RME has influenced their thinking on mathematics education.
