Tematem niniejszej książki jest społeczne konstruowanie regionu. Analizą objęto województwo małopolskie, stanowiące - w formie administracyjnej jednostki podziału terytorialnego państwa - swoistą „przestrzeń zadaną". W centrum zainteresowania znajdują się kwestie empirycznych warunków podmiotowości regionalnej. Przyjęta przez autora perspektywa instytucjonalna definiuje zagadnienie podmiotowości regionalnej w postaci trzech ściśle z sobą powiązanych problemów: autonomii regionalnej, a więc warunków i możliwości uzyskania politycznej kontroli nad procesami zmiany; modernizacji, czyli zdolności aktorów regionalnych do przekształcania istniejących powiązań społecznych i gospodarczych w taki sposób, aby pozostając w zgodzie z regułami globalnego kapitalizmu, uruchomić endogenne procesy rozwoju, a tym samym wyjść z rozwoju zależnego; legitymizacji (mobilizacji) - wykorzystania zasobów kulturowych i symbolicznych, by nadać procesom kontrolowanej zmiany instytucjonalnej charakter legitymizowany oraz włączyć regionalne zasoby kulturowe w szersze procesy rozwojowe. Public Administration In Central Europe written by Stanisław Mazur and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-03-19 with Political Science categories.

This book examines the extent to which recent transformations of administrative systems and public management mechanisms in Central European (CE) countries serve the purpose of providing effective and efficient public institutions, high quality of public services, respect for the rule of law, and the citizens’ trust in the state. It details the reasons behind the major differences in the modernisation paths followed and their attendant inconsistencies and how, despite the adoption of values and solutions prevailing in the EU upon accession, these countries are shifting, to varying degrees, towards institutional design reminiscent of illiberal democracies. Taking a comparative approach and based on rich original data, it applies theoretical models to explain the nature and implications of the processes under consideration and identifies the determinants that impact upon the transformation of public administration systems and its consequences. This book will be of key interest to scholars and students of public governance, public administration and policy, East European studies, and more broadly politics, law, sociology but also economy.

Ideologies Of Eastness In Central And Eastern Europe written by Tomasz Zarycki and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-03-21 with Social Science categories.

This book explores how the countries of Eastern Europe, which were formerly part of the Soviet bloc have, since the end of communist rule, developed a new ideology of their place in the world. Drawing on post-colonial theory and on identity discourses in the writings of local intelligentsia figures, the book shows how people in these countries no longer think of themselves as part of the "east", and how they have invented new stereotypes of the countries to the east of them, such as Ukraine and Belarus, to which they see themselves as superior. The book demonstrates how there are a whole range of ideologies of "eastness", how these have changed over time, and how such ideologies impact, in a practical way, relations with countries further east.

With contributions from leading thinkers such as J. Bhagwati and Robert Solow, this edited collection examines some hotly debated issues in today's world. The significance of globalization and its effects on welfare states is discussed and analyzed. A special chapter is devoted to terrorism, and it is explained why some people are willing to sacrifice their lives to gain 'heavenly goods'. The role of multinationals in the globalization process is examined as is the importance of changing and evolving social norms regarding work and leisure for the survival of today's welfare states.

Rise Trading State written by Richard Rosecrance and has been published by Basic Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1987-05-31 with Business & Economics categories.

What will power look like in the century to come? Imperial Great Britain may have been the model for the nineteenth century, Richard Rosecrance writes, but Hong Kong will be the model for the twenty-first. We are entering the Age of the Virtual State -- when land and its products are no longer the primary source of power, when managing flows is more important than maintaining stockpiles, when service industries are the greatest source of wealth and expertise and creativity are the greatest natural resources.Rosecrance's brilliant new book combines international relations theory with economics and the business model of the virtual corporation to describe how virtual states arise and operate, and how traditional powers will relate to them. In specific detail, he shows why Japan's kereitsu system, which brought it industrial dominance, is doomed; why Hong Kong and Taiwan will influence China more than vice-versa; and why the European Union will command the most international prestige even though the U.S. may produce more wealth.

"This Chaillot Paper focuses on the emergence of the G-20 and its role in forging global governance amidst the changing dynamics of multilateralism. The paper explores three key dimensions of the G-20: its origins and development, its role with respect to the development of multilateralism and the way in which both old and new key actors engage with this new forum. It also emphasises how the G-20 is clearly of central importance for the EU's aim to build an international order based on effective multilateralism."--Editor.

Progress In International Relations Theory written by Colin Elman and has been published by MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-08-29 with History categories.

All academic disciplines periodically appraise their effectiveness, evaluating the progress of previous scholarship and judging which approaches are useful and which are not. Although no field could survive if it did nothing but appraise its progress, occasional appraisals are important and if done well can help advance the field. This book investigates how international relations theorists can better equip themselves to determine the state of scholarly work in their field. It takes as its starting point Imre Lakatos's influential theory of scientific change, and in particular his methodology of scientific research programs (MSRP). It uses MSRP to organize its analysis of major research programs over the last several decades and uses MSRP's criteria for theoretical progress to evaluate these programs. The contributors appraise the progress of institutional theory, varieties of realist and liberal theory, operational code analysis, and other research programs in international relations. Their analyses reveal the strengths and limits of Lakatosian criteria and the need for metatheoretical metrics for evaluating scientific progress.
