Dyzma is an unemployed clerk who crashes a swanky party, where he makes an offhand crass remark that sets him on a new course. Lekturę tej publikacji szczególnie zalecam studentom kulturoznawstwa, pedagogiki, socjologii i antropologii kulturowej. Książka ta powinna też trafić do pracowników placówek kulturalnych, wydziałów kultury, urzędników miejskich i powiatowych. Ich wiedza na temat ludyzmu i mechanizmów jego przemian we współczesnym świecie powinna być stale uzupełniana. Z recenzji dra hab. Ludwika Kozołuba, prof. UO Społeczeństwo polskie stało się w ostatnim dwudziestoleciu społeczeństwem konsumpcyjnym ze wszystkimi tego faktu konsekwencjami. Sąd taki wydaje się słuszny przede wszystkim w odniesieniu do mieszkańców miast dużych i średniej wielkości, liczących nie mniej niż 150–200 tys. ludności. W miastach takich zachodzą procesy, które pozwalają mówić nie tylko o społeczeństwie konsumpcyjnym, ale wręcz o społeczeństwie konsumpcji zabawy. W moim przekonaniu następuje w polskim społeczeństwie miejskim (analizowano miasto Kraków) proces „uludyczniania kultury”, przez wielu badaczy nazywany ― raczej niesłusznie ― „karnawalizacją kultury”. Proces ten oznacza ustawiczne rozszerzanie się społecznego zasięgu zabawy, mnożenie się jej form, ogarnianie przez nią nowych obszarów czy dziedzin życia społeczno-kulturowego, także tych, które były dotychczas sferami powagi, jak nauka, wiedza naukowa, religia itd. Zabawa niesie wiele pożytków dla jednostki i dla społeczeństwa. Jednak proces „uludyczniania kultury”, rugowania z życia społecznego i kultury powagi, powszechne uleganie hedonizmowi, dążenie do osiągania permanentnej przyjemności, narastająca dominacja zabawy i rozrywki nad innymi formami aktywności człowieka, oznacza kształtowanie się tego, co James E. Combs nazwał z przekąsem nowym wiekiem ludycznym, oraz panowanie nowego homo ludens, człowieka zabawy ery konsumpcyjnej. To może budzić niepokój, iż społeczeństwo konsumpcyjne istotnie „zabawi się na śmierć”, jak wieszczył Neil Postman.
