La mediación internacional es uno de los mecanismos más antiguos y más utilizados en la resolución pacífica de conflictos. Sin embargo, existen pocos estudios de derecho internacional que profundicen en ella. El punto ciego de la doctrina jurídica internacional podría entenderse como una falta de interés o un olvido de los estudiosos del derecho internacional, pero este libro muestra, de manera crítica, que ignorar la mediación tiene que ver con la manera como se concibe y clasifica lo que se considera "jurídico" o "político" en el derecho internacional, concluyendo a su vez la dificultad que tiene la disciplina para lidiar con conceptos flexibles e inestables. El libro comienza con un estudio historiográfico de la doctrina internacionalista que va desde finales del siglo xix hasta la doctrina contemporánea, en el que se examina cómo se estudia la mediación internacional y cómo se le distingue de otros mecanismos de resolución pacífica de conflictos, teniendo en cuenta las sensibilidades, el contexto y los sesgos disciplinares que la determinan.
