Research Methods For Environmental Studies written by Mark Kanazawa and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-07-20 with Business & Economics categories.

The methodological needs of environmental studies are unique in the breadth of research questions that can be posed, calling for a textbook that covers a broad swath of approaches to conducting research with potentially many different kinds of evidence. Fully updated to address new developments such as the effects of the internet, recent trends in the use of computers, remote sensing, and large data sets, this new edition of Research Methods for Environmental Studies is written specifically for social science-based research into the environment. This revised edition contains new chapters on coding, focus groups, and an extended treatment of hypothesis testing. The textbook covers the best-practice research methods most used to study the environment and its connections to societal and economic activities and objectives. Over five key parts, Kanazawa introduces quantitative and qualitative approaches, mixed methods, and the special requirements of interdisciplinary research, emphasizing that methodological practice should be tailored to the specific needs of the project. Within these parts, detailed coverage is provided on key topics including the identification of a research project, hypothesis testing, spatial analysis, the case study method, ethnographic approaches, discourse analysis, mixed methods, survey and interview techniques, focus groups, and ethical issues in environmental research. Drawing on a variety of extended and updated examples to encourage problem-based learning and fully addressing the challenges associated with interdisciplinary investigation, this book will be an essential resource for students embarking on courses exploring research methods in environmental studies.

Excerpt from Forestry in Nature Study: Issued by the Office of Experiment Stations in Cooperation With the Forest Service Sir: I have the honor to transmit herewith a manuscript prepared by the Forest Service for special distribution among teachers at the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition. In view of the large interests of the Northwest and of the whole country in forest conservation and in the methods of forest replacement, and the growing interest of public-school teachers in these matters, it seems desirable to present this tentative plan of elementary instruction in the subject to the attention of teachers for the purpose of drawing out their criticisms and suggestions with reference to it. With the understanding that the results of such suggestions shall be embodied in more permanent form in future bulletins by this Office, I therefore recommend the immediate publication of this manuscript as a special circular of this Office. Excerpt from North American Forest Research: Investigative Projects in Forestry and Allied Subjects Since this beginning, the increase in the number of agencies engaged in forest research and in the scope and intensity of the studies undertaken has been a promising indication of the growing need for adequate information along these lines. Not including the Federal departments of Canada, Newfoundland, and the United States, there are now from 40 to 50 state, provincial, college, and corporate organizations, and individuals engaged in the study of problems in forestry and related subjects. Excerpt from Forest Research Activities: Forest Management, Range Management, Forest Products, Forest Economics, Forest Survey, Forest Influences; February 1, 1939 Utilizing a request for advice and assistance by the local Soil Conservation Service office to further test the applicability of aerial photographs for Forest Survey purposes, two members of the Survey staff spent October and November on the Placerville ]?roject Area. In previous work on the Lakeport Quadrangle it had been found that significant differences in timber-stand conditions could easily be recognized on the photographs. However, it was also found that many of the areas thus delineated would not fit into any of the hitherto-used stand classes because they were made up of, not one, but two or more different classes. To arbitrarily force them into one or another class would be to introduce considerable varia tion in their composition, as regards both the major element and its associates. Such a-procedure would also add to the problem of attaining consistency between mappers. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
