The concept ‘human life’ and what it entails have become a prominent idea in current theological-ethical discourses, especially in the growing Christian reflection on bioethics, eco-ethics, and social justice. Contemporary Christian ethicists focus on concepts such as ‘flourishing life’, ‘happiness’ and ‘joy’, and how these deep human desires can be realised and fulfilled in life today amidst perennial surges of racism, xenophobia, sexism, systemic violence and policies and structures which further poverty and other forms of social injustices. Christian soteriology, and subsequent moral agency, grapples with the question: How can humans flourish in societies today, and how should Christian morality be defined and designed to be instrumental in the current pursuit of happiness, joy and hope? This publication aims to participate in this modern-day discourse by proposing relevant theological perspectives on the concept of life and, in particular, its relevance for Christians living in this age and in an environment that poses major challenges to public morality and the common good. In conjunction with the emerging theological interest in the concept of life, this project is a modest attempt to take part in the advancement of an ethic of life for today, under the rubric of an ethic of flourishing personhood. The point of departure is the biblical concept of the gift of life and what this gift entails for understanding human life, personhood and moral agency today. The line of reasoning in this book delineates the broad concept 'ethic of life' and the biblical concept 'gift of life' and draws the line towards an ethic of flourishing personhood. The central theoretical argument of the study is that reformed theology can give direction to the contemporary theological search for meaning and purpose of human life and offer answers to the questions on life facing humanity today, especially by pursuing the idea of flourishing personhood.

Life is a gift from the living God. There are unfortunate people who live without that truth. Living without that truth results in lives of uncertainty. Living without that truth requires armies of professionals to resolve every difficulty. For those chosen to live with God forever, the gift is a responsibility that compels one to share the peace of that certainty. For years I lived in denial of the truth. Then in the middle of my complacency was born the embodiment of the truth of life as God's gift. This book is my attempt to explain, even to the most ardent unbeliever, the impact that one child can have on this human life. The hope and peace that one "doomed" child can bring to others brought stability to one person's chaotic life. Her life was a message of the beauty and power that is within all humanity. This fictionalized accounting is a tribute to one life. The truth in this message is that life is not about the death that ends this reality. The truth in the message is that one child's life can be a gift of a deeper understanding of who we are. God has given us the gift of life. We can choose to accept that truth or not. The human in this telling chose to respect the message in this child's brief life. This one person chose life. Because only when one chooses to believe can one truly live.

Foundational Teaching from a Charismatic Healing Minister and a Catholic Scholar International healing minister Randy Clark teams up with Mary Healy, a respected Catholic scholar, to show not only that the gifts of the Spirit still exist today, but that they are not optional; they are the necessary tools God has given for both building his Church and spreading the Gospel. With wisdom and practical insight, Clark and Healy walk you through biblical texts, dispel misconceptions, and show that there is an endless variety of gifts. They also show how the gifts are not just for a select few, but distributed freely by the Holy Spirit among believers. After laying this foundation, the authors reveal how you can activate the gifts in your own life and use them to benefit others. In this hurting world, you can give people more than just a message--you can help usher them into an encounter with God.

Your God Given Dignity is a heartfelt yet fun companion to help make positive changes in self-acknowledgment. Often Christian women work very hard, taking on leadership and supportive roles in the church, community, at their jobs and with their families, only to neglect themselves to their own physical, mental, and spiritual detriment. When complete in Christ, living in relationship with the heavenly Father, we can handle what is necessary, know when to say enough, and know when to ask for help. The practices within these pages help bring us back to alignment. Your God Given Dignity presents simple concepts with verses and quotes, insights and action steps that incorporate learning strategies using all five senses (given to us by God for a purpose) to imbed positive thoughts—and especially God’s words—into our brains. The goal is to bring our minds back from “unworthy” thoughts to what God thinks through repetition and other practices. The renewed mind becomes easier as the thoughts of God, positive images, and supportive actions are consistently practiced and reinforced. Some of these practices involve goal setting and observing daily life to find personal strengths and passions so they can be strengthened even more. Christ’s disciples were just that—“disciplined ones”—but it doesn’t happen overnight. That is what we endeavor to pursue, step-by-step discipline, with these positive practices to incorporate God’s thoughts into our minds. Gentle reminders of what we do have put us back on the road to full capacity with less internal resistance. The trick is to acknowledge those things in ourselves and remember that God has made us worthy. “Failures” need to be forgiven and forgotten, and successes acknowledged for the gift they are. When we can truly believe God at His Word without reservation, through the renewed mind, we can shine as brilliant lights in this world.

The Ten Commandments and the Beatitudes are often considered significant texts for the Christian moral life. However, most interpretations of these passages either focus on the original meaning of the text or how the texts should impact ordinary living today. In The Ten Commandments and the Beatitudes Yiu Sing L c s Chan brings together biblical studies and Christian ethics to look at these foundational texts in a new way. For each passage Chan asks both what the texts meant and what they mean today. He helps readers to carefully study the text's original meaning, then interpret the text within a sound ethical framework. The Ten Commandments and the Beatitudes is an excellent introduction to key concepts in biblical studies and Christian ethics that combines sound study with warmth and wisdom.
