OBJETIVO GENERAL: Esclarecer los conceptos fundamentales deldiscurso político mexicano durante el sexenio del Presidente Carlos Salinas de Gortari (1 988-1 994). Hemos seguido un método, que incluye tres tipos de análisis que proceden de diversos autores: un análisis actancial, propuesto por J. Greimas, que guió el discurso de los mensajes y los protagonistas; un análisis argumentativo que guiará el contenido y finalmente, un análisis ideológico. El presente estudio intentó demostrar las siguientes características del discursoneoliberal: El discurso neoliberal del Presidente Carlos Salinas de Gortari constituyó un discurso inédito en la realidad política y social mexicana, que dio sustento a las transformaciones ocurridas en el período 1988-1994. Es articulado, es decir, sus partes se encuentran concatenadas. Es homogéneo, su cuerpo argumenta1 tiene la misma tesitura en función de sus objetivos. Es moderno, sus conceptos intentan captar los cambios presentes del contexto en que surge. Es congruente, con las acciones políticas instrumentadas por el Gobierno. El discurso del Gobierno mexicano, en el periodo mencionado, se insertó en la nueva realidad geopolítica y económica mundial. La realidad sociopolítica contradijo las bondades difundidas a través del discurso neoliberal del Gobierno de Carlos Salinas. El discurso neoliberal mexicano tuvo como propósito, por un lado, dar legitimidad a las acciones instrumentadas por el Gobierno con el propósito de reencauzar el desarrollo económico y político del país y, por otro lado, ser el fundamento de un nuevo modelo de relaciones societales. A pesar de lo anterior, el discurso no se vinculó estrechamente con la realidad que pretendió cambiar, es decir, fue un discurso contradictorio.
