Goa transcends its image as a mere its surface lies a history steeped in bloodshed and brutality, often conveniently brushed aside due to the discomfort it elicits. This book unveils these concealed truths, revealing a historical identity of Goa rooted in Sanatan Dharma -the authentic essence of the region. Tracing back thousands of years, the chronicle unfolds the relentless suppression of this identity by Islamic and Christian invaders., the book illuminates a seldom-addressed yet crucial topic-the deliberate and systematic persecution of Hindus, the original inhabitants of Goa, which remains under-discussed even after the liberation of Goa in 1961 from colonial rule.

Resurgent Asia analyses the phenomenal transformation of Asia, which would have been difficult to imagine, let alone predict, fifty years ago, when Gunnar Myrdal published Asian Drama. In doing so, it provides an analytical narrative of this remarkable story of economic development, situated in its wider context of historical, political, and social factors, and an economic analysis of the underlying factors, with a focus on critical issues in the process of, and outcomes in, development. In 1970, Asia was the poorest continent in the world, marginal except for its large population. By 2016, it accounted for three-tenths of world income, two-fifths of world manufacturing, and one-third of world trade, while its income per capita converged towards the world average. However, this transformation was associated with unequal outcomes across countries and between people. The analysis disaggregates Asia into its four constituent sub-regions--East, Southeast, South, and West--and further into fourteen economies--China, India, South Korea, Indonesia, Turkey, Taiwan, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Sri Lanka--which account for more than four-fifths of its population and income. This book enhances our understanding of development processes and outcomes in Asia over the past fifty years, draws out the analytical conclusions that contribute to contemporary debates on development, and highlights some lessons from the Asian experience for countries elsewhere. It is the first to examine the phenomenal changes that are transforming economies in Asia and shifting the balance of economic power in the world, while reflecting on the future prospects in Asia over the next twenty-five years. A rich, engaging, and fascinating read.

India got freedom but still we are lagging behind in comparision to other countries who also got independence in the some era as we got. We are still struggling to achieve what we should have attained much earlier. What we see on the surface of reality is the opposite of what is there on paper. We discover that we have not moved forward but pushed back. There is nothing unusual in the problems of hunger; want; health; hygiene; water supply and education. But what is unusual is that our efforts have not borne fruit because these had not been honest and sincere. ‘Resurgent India’ is the flight of our imagination. It encompasses the elements of science; sacrifice; god; religion; spirituality and knowledge and it can institutionalise a human being into god from within the common citizens and society. Nation pervades our soul; mind and heart. We have always kept this sense alive. We have neither lost sight of our culture nor shut ourselves to new ideas. This collection has the vision of a Bharat singed with the sensitive spirit of Antyodaya; moving up and fast. The ‘Resurgent India’ which is in your hand is the result of collective efforts. In preparing it; constructive efforts of many practitioners of word; worshippers of Saraswati and those saints who are engaged in taking Bharat Mata to the highest level have been employed.

This book clarifies the crucial role of periodical press in the advance of colonial print cultures and public debates in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. The Colonial Periodical Press in the Indian and Pacific Ocean Regions is a venture of the International Group for Studies of Colonial Periodical Press of the Portuguese Empire (IGSCP-PE), which also invests in comparative studies and conceptual discussions. Moving around urban shores of the Indian and Pacific Oceans, it approaches the crucial role of periodical press in the development of colonial print cultures and public debates in these regions. By being mostly focused on press from spaces and peoples under the domain of the Portuguese Empire, it addresses a bibliographical gap in international discussions moved by the field. The outcome reflects an investment in offering decentred and de-nationalized approaches to the colonial print cultures and press histories under study, working as a platform for regional dialogues and comparative perspectives. The studies presented allow a better understanding of transits and connections of both an imperial and a trans-imperial nature, contributing to the consolidation of comparative approaches in the studies of European empires and colonialisms. This volume is indispensable for scholars and students in media studies, modern history, cultural studies, literary studies and political science.

Moving To Goa written by Katarina Kakar and has been published by Penguin UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-12-15 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Many people dream of escaping the stresses and strains of urban life and moving to Goa. Katharina Kakar and her husband, the psychoanalyst and writer Sudhir Kakar, followed their dream and boldly took that plunge— buying a charming old house in a tranquil south Goa village, where they hoped to find a whole new way of living and working. Ten years later, they are still there, living the idyll—and the reality—of life in Goa. So which is the real Goa? Is it all about sun and sand, beaches and bikinis, feni and vindaloo? This book captures the allure of all these, as well as the festivals and rituals that punctuate the rhythm of village life. It portrays fascinating local characters, ranging from ageing hippies, beach boys and elusive workmen to the aristocratic residents of Goa’s grand old mansions. But it also reveals lesser-known aspects of Goa: the hidden—often shocking—histories of its colonial past; and the debates and fissures that engage and divide Goan society today. In part personal memoir and travelogue, in part an insightful look at Goan history and society, this book portrays Goa with all its paradoxes and problems, its seductive pleasures and, above all, its unique and enduring charm.
