In der Arbeit wird der Kanonisierungsprozess einer Hofchronik namens Chunqiu ("Fruhlings- und Herbst-Annalen", 722-481 v.Chr.) in China nachgezeichnet. Im Mittelpunkt steht die Analyse der Exegese, welche diesen Prozess ermoglichte.Die Arbeit besteht aus drei Teilen: Im ersten werden fruhe Lesarten (ca. 4.-3. Jh. v.Chr.) von annalistischen Texten allgemein und dieser Hofchronik speziell als Vorlaufer der spateren systematischen Exegese dargestellt. Im zweiten und ausfuhrlichsten Teil wird zunachst eine Analyse der exegetischenMethode des fruhesten massgeblichen Kommentars, des Gongyang zhuan, sowie von deren Bezug zu hermeneutischen Techniken der Omendeutung vorgenommen. Danach folgt eine Untersuchung zu dessen inhaltlichem Anliegen sowie ein Versuch zu dessen Datierung. Im dritten Teil wird die Weiterentwicklung der Exegese von dem rituell und moralisch ausgerichteten Gongyang-Kommentar hin zum pragmatischen Rechtskommentar DongZhongshus (2. Jh. v.Chr.) gezeigt. Es zeigt sich, wie eine ursprunglich im kultisch-rituellen Raum entstandene Hofchronik uber eine moralische Deutung schliesslich als exempla-Sammlung einer Rechtspraxis zum Leitklassiker einer Dynastie (Fruhe Han, 206 v.-23 n.Chr.) avancieren konnte, auf dessen Grundlage weitreichende politische Entscheidungen begrundet wurden.
