Volume 7 of the ITI Treatment Guide series provides clinicians with the latest evidence-based information on the techniques and materials utilized for ridge augmentation. An up-to-date analysis of the current evidence is based in part on the proceedings of the ITI Consensus Conferences in Stuttgart (2008) and Bern (2013) and on a review of the current literature. Twelve clinical cases demonstrate the planning and treatment principles required to successfully rehabilitate patients with varying degrees of ridge atrophy. The ITI Treatment Guide series is a compendium of evidence-based implant-therapy techniques and procedures for daily practice. Written by renowned clinicians and supported by contributions from expert practitioners, the ITI Treatment Guides provide a comprehensive overview of various clinical options. The management of different clinical situations is discussed with an emphasis on sound diagnostics, evidencebased treatment concepts, and predictable treatment outcomes with minimal risk to the patient.

The reconstruction of deficient alveolar ridges using vertical and/or horizontal guided bone regeneration techniques allows for ideal implant placement, which is crucial for function and also for esthetically successful outcomes. Unlike in the past, when meeting a patient's functional demands was sufficient, many patients now have greater expectations from their implant restoration. Hence, it is no longer enough simply to restore the edentulous space with a functioning tooth or teeth. Repair of lost ridge contour and prevention of unacceptable esthetic deformities are the goals of current bone augmentation procedures. The dental profession should adopt a proactive preventive philosophy of patient disease management to do all that is possible to prevent the formation of alveolar ridge defects. If the future prosthesis is implant and sufficient bone volume to properly place the implant is absent, techniques like guided bone regeneration (with / without grafts), simple bone grafting (with / without growth factors), sinus floor elevation (for posterior maxilla), orthodontic extrusion, controlled tissue expansion, distraction osteogenesis can be undertaken

With contributions from: R. Gruber, Th. Hanser, Ph. Keeve, Ch. Khoury, J. Neugebauer, J. E. Zöller Bone and Soft Tissue Augmentation in Implantology addresses useful methods of bone grafting procedures in implant treatment based on current biologic principles and constitutes a unique reference in this field. The book describes, in over 760 pages and 2837 mostly color illustrations, the different possibilities available to augment the bone volume in width and height. The information presented includes not only the underlying scientific concepts of the different augmentation techniques with autogenous bone, but also the associated soft tissue management, from safe approaches to different possibilities for soft tissue augmentation and papilla reconstruction techniques. The book provides surgeons with a basic understanding of the biologic response to bone grafting procedures. Experienced implantologists will benefit from the in-depth background information, details of high-level surgical techniques, and scientific results, which will enable them to optimize their surgical procedures. Each chapter offers a wealth of information on the specific topic covered, with much attention given to the scientific concepts behind each one. Extensive case reports with step-by-step documentation allow readers to gain an impression of what is possible today in the 3D reconstruction procedures of the alveolar crest. Important criteria for success are presented as well as possible complications and their treatment. Bone and Soft Tissue Augmentation in Implantology is a must-read for every implantologist, oral and maxillofacial surgeon, and any dentist interested in surgery.

Insufficient bone volume for dental implant placement is a constant challenge in oral surgery. Several techniques have been suggested to reconstruct bone defect including guided bone regeneration (GBR), based on the use of a subperiosteal barrier. Recently Ti-mesh received growing attention. Hence the creation and the maintenance of a space for graft placement could prevent. The aim of this study was to evaluate alveolar ridge augmentation using bone graft associated with Ti-mesh.the collapse of the biomaterial and provide GBR.A total of 4 patients were selected for alveolar ridge reconstruction for implant placement purposes. Patients were healthy, with nosystematic or local contraindication to intraoral surgery and implant placement. Each patient underwent a bone augmentation by using a Ti-mesh filled with autogenous bone graft mixed with a Xenograft. The peri-implant bone gain was retrospectively evaluated at a mean follow-up of 12 months concerning 4 dental implants. The overall clinical and radiographic results of the present study show a survival and success rate of 100% according to Albrektssonet al.u2019s proposed criteria .CBCT were performed before each surgical procedure and during the follow-up recalls. Software was used to measure the bone gain around each implant. The mean horizontal bone gain was 2.175 mm and 2.875 mm vertically at a mean follow-up of 12 months. The use of Ti-mesh allows the regeneration of sufficient bone volume for ideal implant placement. The clinical advantages related to this technique include the possibility of correcting vertical and horizontal bone defects and the lack of major complications if soft-tissue dehiscence and mesh exposures do occur.

Implant dentistry has evolved tremendously over the past three decades and is rapidly progressing as new materials and protocols become available each year. With the number of advancements made in digitally based media and marketing, it is imperative that the clinician be able to separate new trends from evidence-based protocols to make sound and predictable choices for the ultimate benefit of patients. This book presents evidences to show the successes and failures of various treatment approaches and protocols. Early chapters discuss the relevant techniques utilized for bone augmentation decision making, including barrier membranes, bone grafting materials, and growth factors. Surgical chapters dedicated to extraction socket management, alveolar ridge augmentation follow, each chapter detailing specific indications and patient selection criteria as well as step-by-step surgical procedures.

Implant supported restorations have become an ideal treatment alternative for the rehabilitation of edentulous sites. However alveolar bone defects due to resorption, trauma or oncologic diseases may considerably affect favorable implant positioning and prosthetic outcomes. Various alveolar ridge augmentation procedures are available to gain enough bone volume and apply the ideal treatment plan afterwards. Guided bone regeneration, ridge splitting, distraction osteogenesis, maxillary sinus augmentation and autogenous block bone grafting are main techniques which have successful outcomes in reconstruction of bone defects. It,Äôs difficult to demonstrate that one augmentation procedure offers better outcomes than another. Studies documenting augmentation techniques seem to be comparable and state favorable results for each procedure.
