Dalam mempelajari kisah Rasulullah para ulama membagi menjadi beberapa kajian, yakni Syamail (bentuk fisik, karakter, sikap, adab keseharian), Dalail (tanda-tanda kenabian seperti hadits yang berisi prediksi masa depan), Khashaish (kekhu-susan Rasulullah), Fadhail (keutamaan Rasulullah) dan Sirah (kisah kehidupan Rasulullah). Buku ini lebih cenderung pada kategori terakhir ini.
