"I couldnt put it down!! Never before has any book ignited so wide array of feelings and emotions within (no pun intended). I laughed, cried and read it again, and again, and again. The War Within provides a glimpse into the mind of a soldier. I could feel the pain, joy and anger of the young woman and fellow veteran, who stood tall when the nation called. I understand her quest to regain the person she left behind, on the field of battle. Her writing is a stroke of literary genius." ~ Kate W. Drexler, CPO (Ret.), US Navy Rubys poetry is written in a very compelling, gripping fashion. Real life is stripped of all distractions. It is artistic and intuitive. ~ Lorraine Austin very powerful and moving poems about the military experience. ~ Sheila Fullwood, SFC (Ret.), US Army

This book aims to open new fields of interest in phosphate chemistry and to suggest a new system of classification for phosphates. Due to the very rapid development of this branch of chemistry during the last thirty years and the very confusing nomenclature often used in chemical literature, this first attempt seems not only justified but necessary. The suggested classification is not revolutionary, with respect to condensed phosphates for instance, but establishes clear boundaries between some categories of compounds such as adducts and heteropolyanion-compounds. The first chapters cover the present state of phosphate chemistry in a general way and could serve as an introduction to phosphates for some categories of students or teachers. The next few chapters are devoted to more specialized topics which would be of interest to chemists, crystallographers or solid-state specialists. Some specific aspects of the crystal chemistry of phosphates, such as the geometry of the networks built by acidic phosphoric anions, for instance, are covered for the first time. The final chapter suggests some improvements for the present system of classification for phosphates. In addition, presented for the first time are the results recently obtained for the replacement of asbestos by harmless biodegradable phosphate fibers.

Louis Couperus's 'Psyche' embodies the rich tapestry of allegorical and mythological narrative, delivered with a fin-de-siècle literary elegance that marks the author's stylistic grandeur. In weaving the vivid journey of its eponymous protagonist, Couperus draws upon a deep well of classical motifs—timeless tales of love, betrayal, and metamorphosis. The novel's literary style evokes a dreamlike quality, an ethereal tableau painted with the intricate brushstrokes befitting of its literary context at the dawn of modernism, yet steeped in romantic traditions. 'Psyche' has been a labor of love for DigiCat Publishing, granting it a rejuvenated life in both print and electronic form, heralding its continuing relevance and the ethereal universality of its themes. Dutch novelist Louis Couperus, known for his baroque and symbolic prose, was profoundly influenced by the aesthetic and decadent movements of his time. The birth of 'Psyche' from Couperus's pen can be traced to his fascination with antiquity and the introspective exploration of the human condition. It is a testament to the milieu that shaped his worldview—a Europe caught between nostalgia and the relentless push toward modernity. Couperus's own personal and artistic quests breathe life into the narrative, molding 'Psyche' into a vessel of philosophical inquiry encased in a story of fantastical realms. 'Psyche' is recommended for those who delight in the intersection of profound psychological insight and the lush terrain of mythopoeic literature. Scholars and casual readers alike will find themselves entranced by this symbolic and aesthetic gem. As an exemplar of Couperus's illustrious career, the novel offers a sophisticated retreat into a world where the spiritual meets the sensual, appealing to anyone who cherishes the enduring power and beauty of written word as a reflection of humanity's most enigmatic dreams and desires.

Everything Is Design The Hidden Ethics Of Our Objects And Public Spaces written by Alan J. Reid and has been published by Vernon Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-05-06 with Design categories.

Ethics – to put it concisely – is ‘mindful well-being’. It is a set of standards that guides how we treat ourselves, one another, and the environment. When we design things for public use, we also communicate an ethical perspective. When we use things designed for us, we adopt their ethics. This book synthesizes several different disciplines as they relate to design, ethics, and the built environment. Our objects, according to philosophers like Ihde, Verbeek, and Latour, mediate our experiences with the world around us. Through their designs (and, by extension, our perceived affordances), we largely comply with what our objects and spaces want us to do. At the micro-level, the phones in our pockets command our attentive processes in order to feed an attention economy. At the macro level, urban planning and infrastructure can both promote inclusivity and foment violence. We are deeply intertwined with the objects and spaces that have been designed for us. Baked into every object, process, system, and environment are the remnants of the designer’s morals, ethics, values, and biases. Importantly, this book seeks to cultivate mindfulness of the reader’s interactions with their surrounding world, providing them with a line of inquiry that questions areas of unethical design in their built environment and offers useful critiques and new solutions to these ethical dilemmas. We often have the power to reject those things that are irresponsibly designed and unethical in nature, and it is through this agency as users that we can demand better from designers, developers, and companies. It is imperative to understand our mediated relationships with the built environment that surrounds us and the objects within it; this can help explain our behaviors and empower us to make ethical decisions that serve future generations.

An exceptionally accessible introduction to quantum field theory Quantum field theory is by far the most spectacularly successful theory in physics, but also one of the most mystifying. This venerable subject provides the crucial bridge between the long established quantum mechanics and the still hypothetical string theory. Quantum Field Theory, as Simply as Possible provides an essential primer on the subject, giving readers the conceptual foundations they need to wrap their heads around one of the most important yet baffling subjects in physics. Quantum field theory grew out of quantum mechanics in the late 1930s and was developed by a generation of brilliant young theorists, including Julian Schwinger and Richard Feynman. Their predictions were experimentally verified to an astounding accuracy unmatched by the rest of physics. Quantum field theory unifies quantum mechanics and special relativity, thus providing the framework for understanding the quantum mysteries of the subatomic world. With his trademark blend of wit and physical insight, A. Zee guides readers from the classical notion of the field to the modern frontiers of quantum field theory, covering a host of topics along the way, including antimatter, Feynman diagrams, virtual particles, the path integral, quantum chromodynamics, electroweak unification, grand unification, and quantum gravity. A unique and valuable introduction for students and general readers alike, Quantum Field Theory, as Simply as Possible explains how quantum field theory informs our understanding of the universe, and how it can shed light on some of the deepest mysteries of physics.

Lee Lozano written by Jo Applin and has been published by Yale University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-01-01 with Art categories.

An illuminating study of an overlooked artist from the 1960s whose work has recently returned to the limelight This is the first in‑depth study of the idiosyncratic ten‑year career of Lee Lozano (1930-1999), assuring this important artist a key place in histories of post‑war art. The book charts the entirety of Lozano's production in 1960s New York, from her raucous drawings and paintings depicting broken tools, genitalia, and other body parts to the final exhibition of her spectacular series of abstract "Wave Paintings" at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1970. Highly regarded at the time, Lozano is now perhaps best known for Dropout Piece (1970), a conceptual artwork and dramatic gesture with which she quit the art world. Shortly afterwards she announced she would have no further contact with other women. Her "dropout" and "boycott of women" lasted until her death, by which time she was all but forgotten. This book tackles head‑on the challenges that Lozano poses to art history--and especially to feminist art history--attending to her failures as well as her successes, and arguing that through dead ends and impasses she struggled to forge an alternative mode of living. Lee Lozano: Not Working looks for the means to think about complex figures like Lozano whose radical, politically ambiguous gestures test our assumptions about feminism and the "right way" to live and work.
