In the bloody aftermath of Suicide Lounge, Selena is lying low and putting her life back together. When the freedom she has fought hard to secure is threatened, Selena is forced to take on a new enemy—an elusive young man who holds her fate in hand, a man with connections to the nastiest criminals in the south. In a desperate attempt to protect herself and those she’s grown to love, Selena blazes a blistering, high-octane path through the southeast leaving blood-drenched carnage in her wake. Road Carnage is the fourth book in the Selena series. Praise for the SELENA SERIES: “Greg Barth cooked up something mean and served it up and I hope none of you choke on it because it’s mighty tasty.” —Eryk Pruitt, author of Hashtag and Dirtbags “It’s like the wildest of the men’s adventure novels of the ’70s, updated for the new millennium. Definitely not for the faint of heart.” —Bill Crider “Reminiscent of Larry Brown’s Fay, but less innocent and more violent, Selena combines fine writing and an indelible character to help fill the gap of female protagonists in the world of noir.” —Vicki Hendricks, author of Miami Purity “Greg Barth writes with a knife-like edge…A fast, crazy read.” —Marietta Miles, author of Route 12 “Greg Barth writes a hell of a book. He steps on the gas and doesn’t let up for a second.” —Michael Finamore “Mister Barth writes well—hard charging and fast paced.” —Tony Knighton, author of Three Hours Past Midnight “This book had me turning pages and gritting my teeth…a total punch to the gut, and it hurts so good.” —S. W. Lauden, author of Crosswise “Selena is a visceral pulp thriller that had me gripped from the outset.” —Tom Leins, of Dirty Books Blog “This series is a literary legend in the making” —Will Viharo, author of Love Stories Are Too Violent For Me “Selena is a tour de force of unapologetic sex and violence, not for the faint of heart but definitely for hardcore fans of fast paced, unrelenting pulp-noir in the fashion of nobody except Greg Barth.” —Shane D. Keene

Ø More than 1.2 million people die in road traffic crashes every year Ø As many as 50 million people are injured or disabled by road traffic crashes every year Ø Road traffic crashes cost countries up to 4% of their Gross National Product Ø Correctly used seat-belts reduce the risk of death in a crash by 61% Ø Mandatory use of child restraints can reduce child deaths by 35% Ø Helmets reduce fatal and serious head injuries by up to 45% Ø Enforcing a drinking and driving law around the world could reduce alcohol-related crashes by 20% (WHO, 2005). According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Africa has the world's highest rate of road fatalities per capita. For example, the statistics indicate that 2,043 people perished in road accidents in 2007 in Ghana alone compared to 1,858 people who died in 2006. Many factors contribute to road accidents in Africa. The notable ones include bribery and corruption. “While the focus of this book is Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa, for obvious reasons, nonetheless, Stopping the Carnage on African Roads is unmistakably germane to the totality of the dismal traffic situation in Africa at large. In this sense, the expansive title of the book is all the more appropriate. In sum, on the critical subject of preventable road carnage in Africa, Mr. Bonna is one, among a dispiritingly low number of writers and intellectuals, who knows exactly what he is talking about. In essence, the author's argument revolves around the salutary, commonsensical and imperative need for postcolonial African governments to ensure that the auspicious facility of vehicular transportation is safely and productively engaged. The latter observation, of course, implies the stringent and impartial enforcement of transit laws and penalties.” (Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr., Ph.D., Bronx, New York).

"It has been the best part of 12 years since I investigated a fatal accident and dealt with grieving relatives. It has taken me 12 years to have the strength to write about it, to put pen to paper and record what has caused me so much grief and anguish." So writes Craig Hodge, one of Victoria Police's leading investigators of fatal road accidents. A police officer for 20 years, eight of which he spent with the Accident Investigation Section (now the Major Collision Investigation Unit), Hodge attended the horrific scenes of more than 350 accidents that resulted in deaths and serious injuries. In ROAD KILL, Hodge recounts harrowing investigations and details the processes involved in finding out the causes of such tragedies, which often led to prosecutions. His story is a cautionary tale in which responsible driving messages loom large. ROAD KILL also provides a poignant account of the emotional and psychological impact such carnage has on all involved, not least of all on investigators like Hodge, who struggled at times to find a balance between being sensitive to victims and their families, while also trying to remain emotionally detached for his own sanity and wellbeing.

Road traffic collisions are the leading cause of death in Africa. Death and injuries from road traffic place an enormous strain on Africa's health care systems and their national economies. Fortunately, there is a growing recognition that road traffic injuries can be prevented. A number of countries have shown that by taking action on drunk-driving, speeding, use of helmets and seat belts, and increasing the visibility of pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists, a significant number of lives can be saved and resources spared, even as motorization continues to rise. In addition, measures to decrease corruption, in law enforcement, improve the roads, develop pedestrian and driver awareness could bring the accident rate in countries in Africa down to the levels common in fully developed countries. This book provides information on road accident prevention and draws the attention of the public, the government, the lawmakers and the councils of state in Africa to the loss of lives on our roads. It issues this alert: that after many years of independence, Africa must stop constructing double single roads as major highways from the capital city to link the other cities.

It is possible to eliminate death and serious injury from Canada’s roads. In other jurisdictions, the European Union, centres in the United States, and at least one automotive company aim to achieve comparable results as early as 2020. In Canada, though, citizens must turn their thinking on its head and make road safety a national priority. Since the motor vehicle first went into mass production, the driver has taken most of the blame for its failures. In a world where each person’s safety is dependent on a system in which millions of drivers must drive perfectly over billions of hours behind the wheel, failure on a massive scale has been the result. When we neglect the central role of the motor vehicle as a dangerous consumer product, the result is one of the largest human-made means for physically assaulting human beings. It is time for Canadians to embrace internationally recognized ways of thinking and enter an era in which the motor vehicle by-product of human carnage is relegated to history. No Accident examines problems related to road safety and makes recommendations for the way forward. Topics include types of drivers; human-related driving errors related to fatigue, speed, alcohol, and distraction and roads; pedestrians, cyclists, and public transit; road engineering; motor vehicle regulation; auto safety design; and collision-avoidance technologies such as radar and camera-based sensors on vehicles that prevent crashes. This multi-disciplinary study demystifies the world of road safety and provides a road map for the next twenty years.
