Bryan Robson is widely remembered as a fearless and inspirational player and captain, both for club and country, whose presence lifted team-mates and intimidated opponents. At his peak, he was acknowledged as the most complete midfield player in the country, and played at the highest level despite a series of devastating injuries. He began his playing career at West Bromwich Albion, then moved to Manchester United in 1981 for a then record British transfer fee of £1.5 million. He soon became captain, and enjoyed regular Cup success, eventually winning the Championship. He also won 90 caps for England, 65 of them as captain. His autobiography reveals a fascinating insight into his days with the England and United camps and characters such as Paul Gascoigne, Gary Lineker, Roy Keane and Alex Ferguson. He puts the record straight on the 'drink culture' that Ferguson sought to stamp out at United, and describes his pain when he discovered he was surplus to the manager's requirements. He candidly reflects on the highs and lows of his football life, and discusses incidents on the pitch as well as some of the clashes that have happened behind the scenes.

John 'Robbo' Robertson is a Hearts legend and the club's all-time record goalscorer in the league. He has a remarkable tally of 311 goals in 712 appearances for Heart of Midlothian FC. Capped 16 times for Scotland, Robbo is Hearts' most successful striker in the modern era. His uncanny knack of being in the right place at the right time and his sublime finishing touch have made him a footballing icon. Now Robbo tells his own story in his own words. He recalls how football became his passion as a youngster, how he got his big break and why he didn't sign for Hibs - a particular sore point for Hearts' arch-rivals every time the 'Hammer of Hibs' scored one of his record 27 goals in an Edinburgh derby. Robbo's recollections include brilliant insider stories about Brian Clough and Wallace Mercer, plus the heartbreak of losing the league in the season's closing minutes. He talks, too, about his family and how his life changed forever when he lost his father to cancer at the age of just fourteen. John Robertson's life is an extraordinary one. His journey takes him from the parks and streets of Scotland's capital to the history books as one of the greatest players ever to pull on the Jambos' famous maroon jersey. ROBBO is a must-read for anyone who loves Hearts and loves football.

Doddie written by Alex Macdonald and has been published by Black & White Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-03 with Sports & Recreation categories.

This is the autobiography of a Rangers legend. Alex MacDonald's compelling memoirs cover his formative years as a player with St Johnstone, his rise to fame with Rangers, his transfer to Hearts where he became player-manager, and his time in charge at Airdrie. But Doddie is quintessentially a Rangers man, having grown up in Glasgow supporting them and then going on to play a key role in the club's 1972 Cup Winners' Cup triumph. Doddie won 12 medals in a glittering career, including a highly-prized European one during his time with Rangers, yet as he reveals, a chance meeting with Celtic manager Jock Stein might have resulted in him signing for the Old Firm's other half. Etched indelibly in his memory, too, is the dejection he suffered when Hearts lost the League Championship and Scottish Cup within the space of a week in the mid-1980s and his subsequent delight at leading Airdrie into Europe. Doddie is a fascinating story, both for his lifelong love affair with football and his more personal story of growing up in Glasgow, his love of animals and his midlife crisis when he put the car in the garage and headed out on the highway on a brand new Harley Davidson. It has been a life full of adventures and characters and the highs and lows of his life and career are entertainingly and engagingly told.

Eric Cantona's era at Manchester United was as thrilling and monumental as it was controversial and harrowing. Never was it dull, predictable or boring. Cantona carved a niche in the hearts of United fans everywhere and became the undisputed King of Old Trafford. The Frenchman made the number seven shirt his own and he certainly lived up to its magical billing as the shirt worn the club's legends - and, more often than not, its bad boys.In this authoritative and fascinating book, Frank Worrall takes a look behind the facts and the fiction of the five men who have worn the shirt with the most distinction. With the help of players, journalists and a psychologist, he analyses what made Best, Robson, Cantona, Beckham and Ronaldo tick and assesses their credentials for a permanent place in the Old Trafford hall of fame. For example, he looks at how Best finally ripped away the cobwebs of Munich by winning the European Cup almost single-handedly for United; how Cantona turned the club back into winners after a dismal spell in the wilderness and how Ronaldo has offered hope and glitter to a United in transition. It also explores the often darker side to the five men and how mischief so often goes hand in hand with their success and how it made them the entertainers they are.
