Ce volume d’articles et d’hommages vise à rendre compte de la diversité et de l’originalité d’une écriture de poète, à la fois contemplateur de son temps et nostalgique d’un âge d’or perdu, qui remonterait aux origines du langage. Robert Marteau (1925-2011) est l’un des derniers grands poètes français de notre époque. Son écriture est hors temps, hors modes, et s’inscrit dans une tradition renouvelée et féconde, à l’écart des sentiers battus. Venu de son Poitou natal à la fin de la Deuxième Guerre, Robert Marteau collabore, dès son arrivée à Paris, à la revue Esprit, et publie ses premiers recueils de poésie au Seuil, puis des récits et des journaux chez Gallimard. Un long séjour au Québec, de 1972 à 1984, en fait l’un des écrivains français les plus lus outre-Atlantique. Soutenu par Michel Deguy, il participe à Po&sie, puis à Recueil, tout en continuant son travail en prose qui culmine à la parution de Dans l’herbe (2006). Cet essai biographique entend faire connaître l’homme et donner à son œuvre la place qui lui revient. Jean-Yves Casanova est écrivain et universitaire. Il a participé, en 2013, à l’organisation d’un colloque sur Robert Marteau (Robert Marteau, arpenteur en vers et en prose, Presses universitaires de Rennes, 2015).
