This volume provides state-of-the-art up-to-date literature reviews on pathophysiological processes in a number of disease states. The book is organised methodically in a head-to-toe systems approach examining aspects of neuropathophysiology, endocrine pathophysiology, structural biology, renal pathophysiology and genitourinary pathophysiology. This short volume on pathophysiology is intended for general medical and biomedical students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In addition, it is a useful short update of recent advances in research and translational biology to those working in academia or healthcare science.

Extending Medicare Coverage For Preventive And Other Services written by Institute of Medicine and has been published by National Academies Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-05-07 with Medical categories.

This report, which was developed by an expert committee of the Institute of Medicine, reviews the first three services listed above. It is intended to assist policymakers by providing syntheses of the best evidence available about the effectiveness of these services and by estimating the cost to Medicare of covering them. For each service or condition examined, the committee commissioned a review of the scientific literature that was presented and discussed at a public workshop. As requested by Congress, this report includes explicit estimates only of costs to Medicare, not costs to beneficiaries, their families, or others. It also does not include cost-effectiveness analyses. That is, the extent of the benefits relative to the costs to Medicareâ€"or to society generallyâ€"is not evaluated for the services examined. The method for estimating Medicare costs follows the generic estimation practices of the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). The objective was to provide Congress with estimates that were based on familiar procedures and could be compared readily with earlier and later CBO estimates. For each condition or service, the estimates are intended to suggest the order of magnitude of the costs to Medicare of extending coverage, but the estimates could be considerably higher or lower than what Medicare might actually spend were coverage policies changed. The estimates cover the five-year period 2000-2004. In addition to the conclusions about specific coverage issues, the report examines some broader concerns about the processes for making coverage decisions and about the research and organizational infrastructure for these decisions. It also briefly examines the limits of coverage as a means of improving health services and outcomes and the limits of evidence as a means of resolving policy and ethical questions.

Primary Glomerular Diseases Ecab written by Ramadas Pisharody and has been published by Elsevier Health Sciences this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-07-12 with Medical categories.

The basic functional unit of kidney is the glomerulus. Any renal derangement at that level can lead to a multitude of diseases. The renal as well as glomerular disorders secondary to other causes such as hypertension, diabetes, other vasculites, drugs, malignancies, etc. have been adequately addressed. However, the primary glomerular disorders, due to an ambiguity regarding their genesis, have yet to be explored properly. Though these diseases are clubbed under the common head of "primary", they consist of various distinct subtypes with markedly different mechanisms of pathogenesis, course of the disease, response to treatment and prognoses. This clinical update explores the various types of pimary glomerular diseases with an aim to enhance the reader’s knowledge and aid in timely recognition and precise diagnosis of glomerular diseases to help chart the appropriate treatment of each individual condition. The first chapter elucidates the clinicopathological correlation of primary glomerular diseases to help differentiate them from each other and from other similar differential diagnoses without resorting to renal biopsy in all the cases. The second, third and fourth, chapters explore the various aspects of Proliferative Glomerulonephritis, Idiopathic Nephrotic Syndrome and Heredofamilial Glomerular Diseases. The last chapter summarizes the clinically relevant current perspectives regarding the pathogenesis and treatment modalities of all the primary glomerular diseases. This book will help the readers understand the intricacies of the aspects mentioned above and guide the practitioner to diagnose and manage Primary Glomerular Diseases with special reference to practical experience in India. The authors have put together the most relevant facts about the disease for an easy comprehension and understanding of primary glomerular diseases by practitioners and students across the specialty.
