Franz Rosenzweig S Conversions written by Benjamin Pollock and has been published by Indiana University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-08-12 with Religion categories.

Franz Rosenzweig's near-conversion to Christianity in the summer of 1913 and his subsequent decision three months later to recommit himself to Judaism is one of the foundational narratives of modern Jewish thought. In this new account of events, Benjamin Pollock suggests that what lay at the heart of Rosenzweig's religious crisis was not a struggle between faith and reason, but skepticism about the world and hope for personal salvation. A close examination of this important time in Rosenzweig’s life, the book also sheds light on the full trajectory of his philosophical development.

This is the first book to explore the role of quotation in modern Jewish thought. Weaving back and forth from Benjamin to Rosenzweig, the book searches for the recovery of concealed and lost meaning in the community of letters, sacred scripture, the collecting of books, storytelling, and the life of liturgy. It also explores how the legacy of Goethe can be used to develop new strata of religious and Jewish thought. We learn how quotation is the binding tissue that links language and thought, modernity and tradition, religion and secularism as a way of being in the world.

Letters Of Love written by Ephraim Meir and has been published by Peter Lang this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Dialogue categories.

Rosenzweig's and Margrit ("Gritli") Rosenstock-Huessy's letters numbered more than 1000. This does not make a full study of the philosopher's life and thought 1000 times more difficult; instead, the letters illuminate and explain much about Rosenzweig's ideas and works, particularly his Star of Redemption. Meir (modern Jewish philosophy, Bar-Han U., Israel) starts the process of analyzing the letters with his commentary on their implications to Rosenzweig's ideas on dialogical thinking, Rosenzweig's building of the Star of Redemption in terms of personal and relational thought; anti-monism, creation, revelation, redemption and miracle as relational categories; the perspectives of the letters on Judaism and Christianity; the relevance of the letters to key words and central ideas in Star of Redemption (such as "transition," "threshold," and "gate"); and the impact on communication, sickness, and the New Law.

The Politics Of Immortality In Rosenzweig Barth And Goldberg written by Mårten Björk and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-04-21 with Philosophy categories.

Highlighting the central importance of theological configurations of immortality and eternal life from 1914-1945, Mårten Björk explores the key writings of Franz Rosenzweig, Karl Barth and Oskar Goldberg to situate their ideas in relation to the political turmoil of the period, including the rise of social Darwinism, nationalism and fascism. The conversations happening among Christian and Jewish theologians and philosophers on the nature of immortality and eternal life during the period constitute what Björk calls a 'politics of immortality'. The speculative question of eternal life became a way to address the meaning of 'a good life' in a period when millions of lives were lost to war, camps and prisons. This book shows how theology was related to central political concepts and ideas of the era, revealing how the question of immortality pursued by Rosenzweig, Barth and Goldberg became a way to resist the reduction of life to race, blood and soil. By situating the exact political consequences of theological and metaphysical theories of immortality and eternal life, Björk's discussion of Rosenzweig, Barth and Goldberg confronts the perennial question on the relation between life and death and exposes the important connections between political theology and philosophical posthumanism.

The Song of Songs is a fascinating text. Read as an allegory of God’s love for Israel, the Church, or individual believers, it became one of the most influential texts from the Bible. This volume includes twenty-three essays that cover the Song’s reception history from antiquity to the present. They illuminate the richness of this reception history, paying attention to diverse interpretations in commentaries, sermons, and other literature, as well as the Song’s impact on spirituality, theological and intellectual debates, and the arts.
