Gavin Newsom has been a force in California politics since the 1990s, having acquired power through the machinations of his family and friends. As mayor of San Francisco, his Hollywood mystique and historic progressive policies meant that he could do no wrong—even when he was caught having an affair with his secretary, who also happened to be his friend’s wife. Eventually, however, Newsom’s brazen pursuit of power caused even the Left to sour on him, forcing him into the purgatory that was the lieutenant governor’s office. But suave, cocky, and unrelenting, Newsom soon claimed the governorship, where he was free to insert woke policies into every aspect of Californians’ lives. With Jennifer Siebel Newsom, his glamorous but scandal-ridden “first partner,” at his side, Newsom has pushed California leftward into a dirtier and more dangerous version of itself—and positioned himself for his ultimate goal: the White House. This account probes Newsom’s life and influence, addressing the homelessness crisis, COVID lockdowns, the recall, the education wars, and his combative relationships with Ron DeSantis and Donald Trump, while also shedding new light on issues like his relationship with a teenager as mayor, his New Age wedding, and his financial scandals. As a result, the real Gavin Newsom is uncovered—the one behind the veil of media adoration.

Qanon written by Marc-André Argentino and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-07-18 with Social Science categories.
This book explores the QAnon movement by examining its history, fluctuations, and evolution, stemming from the likelihood of multiple users behind the “Q” account, as well as from the changes in the sociopolitical landscape since the creation of the movement. It frames QAnon as a lived religion and demonstrates that it has gone through three stages of existence: proto-QAnon, canonical-QAnon, and apocryphal-QAnon. Author Marc-André Argentino argues that QAnon evolved into something more than a conspiracy theory and demonstrates through a comparative analysis that QAnon is more akin to a new religious movement, in particular a hyper-real religion. He explores the role of gender and women in the QAnon movement, followed by an examination of how the QAnon conspiracy theories have legitimized and coordinated targeted gender-based violence. The book provides evidence of the nexus of QAnon and ideologically-motivated violent extremism and criminality. Finally, it examines the evolution of QAnon after the January 6th insurrection, the loss of the 2020 election by Donald Trump, and the disappearance of “Q.” This volume will be of great interest to researchers of conspiracy theories, new religious movements, American politics, and extremism.

Who is Mary Cheney? In the most eagerly awaited political memoir of the season, Mary Cheney, who served as a top campaign aide to her father, the vice president, presents a behind-the-scenes look at the high-intensity world of presidential politics and talks for the first time about her life, her family, and her role in the campaigns of 2000 and 2004. As a senior adviser to her father, she was in the middle of every major event of the 2000 and 2004 presidential contests -- at the conventions, the debates, and on the trail. Both elections made history -- and so did Mary. And for the first time ever, she writes about what it was like to be at the center of her father's campaigns as his daughter, as a member of the senior staff, and, though she never intended it, as a political target for the other side. Mary, her experiences, and her opinions, have been the subject of intense debate in the media and from activists on both ends of the political spectrum, but she has never spoken publicly about herself, her life, or her political views -- until now. In Now It's My Turn, a frank, funny, and down-to-earth memoir, Mary Cheney describes life inside the bubble of a national campaign. She talks about her close relationship with her parents, how it feels to be pursued by the press, and what it was like when John Edwards and John Kerry made her sexual orientation an issue in live debates televised to millions of Americans. As she describes it, life inside a presidential campaign can be uplifting, frustrating, and heartbreaking, but no matter what else it may be, it's always entertaining.

Men are not the enemy, but they are the problem. Women are wildly underrepresented at every level of the US government: federal, state, and local. Research has shown that women in legislative and executive political positions are far more likely than men to commit to policies that benefit women and girls of all kinds, so after centuries of underrepresentation, it’s clear: our best bet for creating a system that is more fair, balanced, and just for everyone is electing our first Madam President. Donald Trump’s election didn’t mean defeat, and his policies targeting women have not silenced them. Instead, women across the country have been motivated to speak out louder than ever before. There is no more powerful example of this than the Women’s March of 2017—held just one day after Trump’s inauguration—which was a worldwide catalyst for ongoing change and a vehicle for systemic empowerment that hasn’t stopped since. Vote Her In is organized around the inspirational messages seen in protest signs carried at those record-breaking marches. Part One outlines the case for why we need to mobilize now, and Part Two provides a clear strategy for how to get there, with 13 tractable actions that women from all backgrounds can take to help get each other (or themselves) into executive political offices and work toward electing our first woman president in 2020. In Vote Her In, author Rebecca Sive has leveraged her decades of political experience to give practical guidance, not just to women seeking political office themselves, but to all women—regardless of their prior exposure to political outreach and activism—who have come together to take action in the wake of Trump’s election. This crucial book empowers every American man, woman, and girl who cares about our nation’s democratic future to join forces and harness their collective power in the run-up to 2020 and, at last, to form a more perfect union. It’s easy to feel angry, but much harder to do something about it. Sive shows us how.
