The Calakmul Model Forest is located in the Yucatán Peninsula, adjacent to a biosphere reserve. The region is tropical, covered with medium and low forest having great biodiversity and a variety of soil types. Poor natural resource management methods used by settlers and alteration of part of the original forested area by traditional agricultural systems have given rise to a complex variety of ecosystems and a number of problems related to forestry, ecology, and society. The Model Forest project described in this report is intended to lead to land use diversification, forest conservation, ecological management of the forest, increased awareness of the importance of the forest among local residents, and preservation of archaeological sites. The report also describes the forest's biogeographical characteristics, the local economy, the current resource management situation, and activities to be undertaken by the project.

Monarchies States Generals And Parliaments written by H. G. Koenigsberger and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-11-22 with History categories.

This 2001 book charts the history of the States General - the parliament - of the Netherlands and its relations with two phases of monarchical rule in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Unlike the English parliament, the States General was a composite body, representing the local estates of the separate provinces which were anxious to keep their autonomy. The history of the States General was determined by this structure, and by its relations with the monarchy: dukes of Burgundy in the fifteenth century, and Spanish Habsburgs in the sixteenth. Ideally, everyone was meant to cooperate. In practice, there was already a major crisis by the 1480s, and divisions from the 1560s led to decades of civil war. By 1600 the Netherlands had split between the United Provinces - a parliamentary regime, governed as a republic by the States General - and the Spanish Netherlands.

Manual Of Grasses For North America written by Mary E. Barkworth and has been published by University Press of Colorado this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-09-15 with Science categories.

Grasses are the world’s most important plants. They are the dominant species over large parts of the earth’s land surface, a fact that is reflected in the many different words that exist for grasslands, words such as prairie, veldt, palouse, and pampas to mention just a few. As a group, grasses are of major ecological importance, as soil binders and providers of shelter and food for wild animals, both large and small. Some grasses, such as wheat, rice, corn, barley, rye, tef, and sugar cane are major sources of calories for humans and their livestock; others, primarily bamboos, are used for construction, tools, paper, and fabric. More recently, the seed catalogs that tantalize gardeners each winter have borne witness to an increasing appreciation of the aesthetic value of grasses. The Manual of Grasses for North America is designed as a successor to the classic volume by Hitchcock and Chase. It reflects current taxonomic thought and includes keys, illustrations, and distribution maps for the nearly 900 native and 400 introduced species that have been found in North America north of Mexico. In addition, it presents keys and illustrations for several species that are known only in cultivation or are of major agricultural significance, either as progenitors of bread wheat and corn or as a major threat to North American agriculture because of their ability to hybridize with crop species. The Manual of Grasses for North America is a major reference work for grasses that will retain its value for many years.
