The protection of human health and food and fiber resources against the ravages of pests of many sorts is a continuous struggle by all people in the world. The use of chemical pesticides as an aid in this struggle is now also global. These chemicals are deliberately added to the environment for the purpose of killing or injuring some form of life. Because pesticides are generally less selectively toxic than would be desired, non-target species, including humans, must be protected from injury by these chemicals. This can only be achieved by thorough understanding of the comparative toxicology of these compounds, and by minimizing human (and other desirable species) exposure. The latter can only be achieved by sound regulatory policies that utilize scientific principles and data, properly tempered by both gaps in that data and sociologic and economic considerations. This book contains the proceedings of the NATO Advanced Study Institute on "Toxicology of Pesticides: Experimental, Clinical and Regulatory Perspectives" held in Riva del Garda on October 6-15, 1986. This NATO-ASI has been promoted by the School of Public Health and Community Medicine, University of Washington at Seattle, by the Institute of Pharmacological Sciences, University of Milano and by the Giovanni Lorenzini Foundation, and has been sponsored by both the Society of Toxicology (USA) and the Italian Society of Toxicology.

This bestselling text gives students a less rigorous, less mathematical way of learning inorganic chemistry, using the periodic table as a context for exploring chemical properties and uncovering relationships between elements in different groups. The authors help students understand the relevance of the subject to their lives by covering both the historical development and fascinating contemporary applications of inorganic chemistry (especially in regard to industrial processes and environmental issues). The new edition offers new study tools, expanded coverage of biological applications, and new help with problem-solving.

The Vocabulary of Organic Chemistry Milton Orchin, Fred Kaplan, Roger S. Macomber, R. Marshall Wilson & Hans W. Zimmer Identifies those terms and concepts which now constitute the vocabulary of organic chemists, then defines and explains these terms and concepts, most often using examples. Organized so that subject matter builds successively on increasingly varied and complex material. All terms and concepts related to a particular area are placed together, except for one chapter on name and type reactions, which is alphabetically arranged. The only book of its kind valuable to students, teachers and chemical professionals alike. 1980 Protective Groups in Organic Synthesis Theodora W. Greene Provides essential information on transformations of organic molecules, including instructions and references for the protection and regeneration of the major organic functional groups: -OH, -NH, -SH, -COOH, and C = O. Covers the best methods of formation and cleavage, properties of protective groups, selection of a group for a particular need. Organization is by functional groups to be protected, with groups arranged in order of increasing complexity of structure, and with most efficient methods of formation or cleavage described first. Charts show the reactivities of 270 of the most commonly used protective groups to 108 reagents, selected as prototypes for the entire array of reagents available to the organic chemist. 1981 Basics of Electroorganic Synthesis Demetrios K. Kyriacou A veteran organic electrochemist illuminates fundamental ideas and principles by means of selected examples from the literature and his own research, demonstrating the practical unity of the field in a clear, concise manner. Describes the general electroorganic reaction and illustrates the general mode of concepts and applications in the area of electrosynthesis. Contains a brief survey of electroorganic reactions and coverage of special topics and the praxis of electroorganic synthesis. 1981

Testo Junkie written by Paul B. Preciado and has been published by The Feminist Press at CUNY this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-09-23 with Social Science categories.

This visionary book on gender and sexuality weaves together high theory and intimate memoir, with "spectacular" results—"and the gendered body will never be the same again" (Jack Halberstam). What constitutes a "real" man or woman in the twenty-first century? Since birth control pills, erectile dysfunction remedies, and factory-made testosterone and estrogen were developed, biology is definitely no longer destiny. In this penetrating analysis of gender, Paul B. Preciado shows the ways in which the synthesis of hormones since the 1950s has fundamentally changed how gender and sexual identity are formulated, and how the pharmaceutical and pornography industries are in the business of creating desire. This riveting continuation of Michel Foucault's The History of Sexuality also includes Preciado's diaristic account of his own use of testosterone every day for one year, and its mesmerizing impact on his body as well as his imagination.

Industrial Aromatic Chemistry written by Heinz-Gerhard Franck and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Science categories.

Aromatic organic hydrocarbons and heterocycles represent a bulk of about one third of all industrially produced organic basic materials. Aromatic compounds such as benzene, phenol, naphthalene, anthracene, and their homologues, are derived from raw materials, coal, crude oil and biogenic resources by thermal and catalytic refining processes. This book introduces the chemistry of aromatics with a brief discussion of the aromatic character and a survey of historical aspects, particularly the development of the organic dye industry during the 19th century. The main emphasis of the book is to give a clear prospect of industrial processes for the production and the derivatisation of aromatics with consistent flow diagrams. Economical aspects of by- and side-products are especially regarded. For the most important aromatics an analysis of the international market included their derivatives: polymers, pesticides, dyes, pigments and drugs. Professional scientists, managers and students in chemistry and chemical engineering will find a wealth of information for their career and daily work.
