Wisdom In The Open Air written by Peter Reed and has been published by U of Minnesota Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993 with Political Science categories.

"Wisdom in the Open Air" traces the Norwegian roots of the strain of thinking called "deep ecology" - the search for the solutions to environmental problems by examining the fundamental tenets of our culture. Although Arne Naess coined the term in the 1970s, the insights of deep ecology actually reflect a whole tradition of thought that can be seen in the history of Norwegian culture, from ancient mountain myths to the radical ecoactivism of today. Beginning with an introduction to Norway's emphasis on nature and the wild, Reed and Rothenberg explore the birth of the environmental movement in the 1960s and 1970s. What follows is a collection of writings by prominent Norwegian thinkers on humanity and nature, most never before published in English. From Peter Wessel Zapffe, a twentieth-century Kierkegaardian figure, the list goes on to include Arne Naess, activist/critic/artist Sigmund Kvaloy, wilderness educator Nils Faarlund, novelist Finn Alnaes, sociologist Johan Galtung, and social reformer Erik Dammann. Their points of view offer thoughts on the significance of modern life and what it means to be human in the face of deteriorating environmental global trends of the 20th century. "Wisdom in the Open Air" asks and answers a fundamental question concerning the ecomovement: what is the role of deep, often abstract, thinking in the attempt to avert a very real ecological crisis?

Living With Risk And Danger written by Mikkel Gabriel Christoffersen and has been published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-06-17 with Religion categories.

The contemporary world is marked by a sense of vulnerability not seen since the end of the Cold War. Climate change, migration, and political instability make people feel the inherent vulnerability of human life. Concepts of "risk" and "danger" are as relevant now as ever before for illuminating contemporary life. Yet, what changes in human lives if one interprets existence with "risk" and "danger" from the perspective of Christian faith? Does the Christian symbol system offer orientation for human lives in a time of crisis? Exploring the work of leading contemporary thinkers, Danish theologian Mikkel Gabriel Christoffersen develops a rich and varied account of Christian doctrine that enables human beings to live with risk and danger, in all vulnerability, with gratitude, courage and care for others. Christoffersen develops an interdisciplinary approach that allows him to draw upon sociological and anthropological reflections on life lived whilst facing risks and dangers. He brings these findings into conversation with Scandinavian, Anglo-American, and German theologians of risk. The result of his endeavor is a Trinitarian theology of risk that explores the extent to which one can consider the cross of Christ a risk of the incarnation rather than its very purpose. Focusing on vital existential questions makes Christoffersen's considerations vibrant and relevant to scholars and lay-people with an open-minded, intellectual interest in contemporary Christian theology.

This volume is the final output of a project started in 2013 on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the Scandinavian Section of the University of Milan. A group of scholars working on different European and non-European cultural and literary traditions come together here to discuss the relationships between their areas of study and the Nordic countries. The range of the contributions expands over time and space, from the Middle Ages to the present day, from Poland in the east to the United States in the west, across various European countries. Through various kinds of expertise and different perspectives, this intercultural discourse deals with diverse themes, including the perception of Nordic culture(s) by foreign writers as well as the image of other cultures in Scandinavian works. In particular, the literary and cultural interchange of models and ideas between the North and other areas is investigated in a number of essays devoted to numerous authors, including, among others, Klaus Böldl, Carmen de Burgos, Carlo Emilio Gadda, Gerhart Hauptmann, Henrik Ibsen, Stieg Larsson, Carl von Linné, Rainer Maria Rilke, J.D. Salinger, Henryk Sienkiewicz, Mme de Staël, August Strindberg, and Tomas Tranströmer

Toward The Light written by Johanne Agerskov and has been published by Vandrer Mod Lysets Forlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1979 with Body, Mind & Spirit categories.

The sub-title of this deeply moving and compelling work defines it as a message to mankind from the transcendental world thus placing it firmly among the very few books which are held to be of supernatural origin. 'Toward the Light' is about love and forgiveness. It is about peace and the unification of a divided humanity, and about achieving a more complete understanding of ourselves. For some this book will be controversial reading. It explains such things as the true nature of Good and Evil; the mystery of Reincarnation; and the consequences of the Law of Reciprocal Action (The Law of Karma). It answers theological questions such as how can we reconcile belief in God who is all-good and all-powerful with the existence of a world that contains so much that is incontestably evil? It is, quite simply, a work of revealed knowledge that bears on the fundamental problems of life -- and upon the reality of death. The book offers a message to all -- regardless of race, religion or creed. All that is asked is that the reader should keep an open mind and be guided by his or her conscience. That being the case, 'Toward the Light' will illuminate the spirit of all who open themselves to its message, for its message is truly a gift of love to every human being.

Creation Care In Christian Mission written by Kapya J. Kaoma and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016 with Ecology categories.

As the world comes to terms with the human-caused destruction of God's sacred creation, whether Global Christianity will celebrate a bi-centennial Edinburgh 2110 becomes a real question. Yet, as Creation Care in Christian Mission shows, the mounting and life-threatening ecological crisis is at the heart of the mission of God. The volume's contributing authors represent a wide range of Christian traditions and geographical regions on which they draw to initiate dialogue on creation care within the wider global Christian community. They explore hard questions relative to climate change, population growth, pollution, poverty, sustainability, economic justice, deforestation, gender, and land issues. Written with academics, missionary and development agencies, and ordinary Christians in mind, this work presents a global unified spiritual and ethical voice on Creation care. The diversity of contributors from established scholars and religious leaders makes this work a unique and critical resource for understanding human responsibility toward God's creation. The book offers hope to all Christians, for Christian mission can positively aid ecological responsibilities and actions. This book is a singular contribution to examining the broader contributions of Christianity in response to our growing environmental challenges. Rather than looking inward, this volume looks outward to relate the Christian missionary tradition to Earth care through the multiple perspectives of theology, ethics, and ritual. It will be an invaluable resource for years to come. Mary Evelyn Tucker, Yale Forum on Religion and Ecology and cowriter of Journey of the Universe. Religion's most important present responsibility is to face the environmental crisis, and this includes much self-examination as well as moral instruction. This important collection, with many leading voices, contributes to the profoundly important ecological transformation of faith and of the faithful. Highly recommended. Roger S. Gottlieb, author of A Greener Faith: Religious Environmentalism and our Planet's Future and Spirituality: What it is and Why it Matters. With the publication of the first papal encyclical on care for the planet this volume brings together in a very timely fashion a set of excellent and highly informative papers on the engagement of the world church in mission to the creatures and habitats of the planet and its deep interconnection with the mission of the church to the peoples of the earth. Michael Northcott, Professor at New College, University of Edinburgh. Kapya J. Kaoma is Visiting Researcher at Boston University's Center for Global Christianity and Mission and adjunct Professor at St John's University College, Zambia. He holds degrees from Theological College of Central Africa (now Evangelical University College), Zambia; Trinity College, England; Episcopal Divinity School, and Boston University in the United States. He is author of The Creator's Symphony: African Christianity and the Plight of Earth and the Poor (2015) and Raised Hopes, Shattered Dreams: Democracy, the Oppressed, and the Church in Africa (2015).
