Psychological science is worldwide, but it originated earlier in some countries and regions than in others, and the course of development has differed among countries and regions. Psychology has also interacted with quite different cultural backgrounds in different regions of the world. The special issue of the International Journal of Psychology contains seven papers that treat the origins and development of psychology in most of the regions of the world. It includes countries and regions where psychology has a long history and has attained major status and also developing countries where psychology is more recent and is less well established. It includes papers on countries of European culture and also countries where psychology interacts with the background of Asian and Latin American cultures. The authors of the papers, all well known internationally, are all present or past members of the Executive Committee of the International Union of Psychological Science and so are well acquainted with world psychology and psychology in countries besides their own. All of the authors have done research in other countries than their own and so can place the development of psychology in their own regions within the context of world psychology. These contributions show both the common features of psychological science around the world and also the special problems and special opportunities of psychology in different regional and cultural settings.

La psicología oscura estudia las partes de nosotros mismos que ninguno quiere reconocer. En este campo, se profundiza en nuestros demonios más íntimos y se ilumina lo que preferimos no ver pero necesitamos ver. La psicología oscura acepta y abraza el lado más oscuro de la experiencia humana. En este sentido, hace lo mismo que cualquier área de estudio antropocéntrico, la única diferencia radica en la especialidad de la psicología oscura de esta realidad oscura dentro del animal humano. Sin embargo, la psicología oscura no pretende ser un desfile de villanos. Los especialistas en este campo hacen su trabajo para comprender mejor por qué y cómo las personas malévolas trabajan para conseguir sus fines, no por un intento de ganar fama para sí mismos o para idolatrar a los más monstruosos de entre nosotros. También es importante tener en cuenta que todos y cada uno de nosotros tenemos un lado oscuro o "malvado" de nuestra propia psicología. Si bien hay algunos otros conductos por los que podemos llegar a la realización de los contenidos de este lado, es la psicología oscura la que nos proporciona la ruta más clara en nuestro camino hacia nuestra iluminación respecto a lo oscuros que somos realmente y por qué. En este libro se cubren las siguientes áreas con el objetivo de iluminar sus significados en nuestra vida cotidiana: los principios de la psicología oscura, los rasgos de la "personalidad oscura", los estudios de la psicología oscura, la lectura de la mente, la psicología cognitiva, los modos de persuasión, el control de las emociones y la ingeniería social y el liderazgo. Cuando la mayoría de la gente piensa en el término "psicología oscura", repasa en su mente los temas del maquiavelismo, la psicopatía y la sociopatía. Son lo que se conoce como rasgos oscuros de la personalidad y son un mero microcosmos del alcance general del campo. Estos rasgos son importantes de estudiar, ya que es probable que todos conozcamos a personas que los muestran, y que algunos de nosotros los mostremos nosotros mismos. Esta es sólo un área de la psicología oscura que se cubre en profundidad dentro de este libro. La lectura de la mente y los modos de persuasión son otras dos áreas en las que se profundiza aquí. Prácticamente cualquier persona puede beneficiarse enormemente del estudio de estas dos áreas, por lo que aquí se incluyen también algunos consejos y técnicas útiles sobre cómo leer lo que piensan los demás y cómo persuadirlos para que colaboren con nuestros fines, entre otras muchas cosas.

This book brings together a selection of theoretical reflections, empirical researches and professional experiences to showcase the increasing production of psychological studies in rural contexts developed in Latin America in recent years. Psychology’s tradition of science and eminently urban profession has produced a void of reflections and approaches on important actors of the societies that constitute their existence in rural contexts and in relation – whether of integration, conflicts and contradictions – with urban agents. But a new generation of psychologists are turning their attention to rural contexts, especially in Latin America. This volume aims to present a selection of these psychological studies and interventions developed in rural contexts from a psychosocial and interdisciplinary perspective, developed together with various social actors who live and work in rural spaces, that have an important relationship with land and nature both in terms of the elaboration of their history, the production of their subjectivities and identity ties with the territory, and the engagement in struggles for the right to land and for public policies that guarantee access to education and health services, technical assistance and infrastructure for its working activities. The book is divided in five parts, each one dedicated to a dimension of psychosocial studies and interventions in rural contexts: theoretical approaches; mental health and rural populations; social movements, communities and resistance practices; gender relations and subjectivation processes; and environment and sustainability. Chapters in each axis prioritize reports of experiences and research conducted with participatory approaches, producing new perspectives and reflections that contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field of psychology, both regionally and globally.
