"True stories of the sea, told by those whose stories they are: Here is action and adventure, passion and drama, storms and calms; it all makes for stirring reading." - Wilbur Smith. Here is a seafaring adventure spanning three generations. In 1938, Caplin, skippered by Commander R. D. Graham with his daughter Marguerite as mate, set out from England to sail around the world. Sixty years later, Cdr Graham's grandson, Captain Ian Tew, bought Independent Freedom in New York and, with his aunt's account of the voyage as a guide, sailed in Caplin's wake. The side-by-side accounts of their navigation to remote shores provide a fascinating historical perspective against which the calms and storms of sailing are ageless. Born into a seafaring family reaching back to a notoriously successful 17th century privateer, Ian Tew was learning to sail at the age of seven. He made his career in the British Merchant Navy and then as a salvor in the Middle and Far East but, after returning to the UK in 1991 to run a small business, has returned to wind and canvas. Ian Tew's other memoir, Salvage: A Personal Odyssey, his first novel The Dare and his collection of stories Reflections On The Sea are all also available through Titwillow Publishing.Praise for Ian Tew's Reflections On The Sea:"Authentic and gripping. A fine collection of stories." Richard Foreman.

Be good. Or some dark night the sorcerers of Vente may come for you. On the islands of the Tropic Sea, parents caution naughty children to behave, or risk that some dark night the sorcerers of the Vente Islands might to carry them off. The fate of these very naughty children varies from island to island, but it is often whispered that they might end up in a stew. Navy lieutenant Taef Lang must have been a very naughty boy, since one soft, tropical night the Vente came and carried him off. And he certainly ended up in some very hot water. Sailing to Redoubt is the story of his adventures in the company of two Vente Island sorceresses, Sella and Lessie Raah, on a quest to discover the secret of the legendary lost outpost of the world’s first people, the Founders. Equipped with a map, a golden key, and a small yacht, they set sail across the bright, blue, and sometimes deadly, Tropic Sea. Sailing to Redoubt is C. Litka’s sixth imaginary world novel and is filled with the characters, humor, and adventure that are the hallmarks of his writing. C. Litka writes old-fashioned novels with modern sensibilities, humor, and romance. His lighthearted novels of adventure, mystery, and travel are set in richly imagined worlds and feature a colorful cast of well drawn characters. If you seek to escape, for a few hours, your everyday life, you will not find better company, nor more wonderful worlds to travel and explore, than in the novels of C. Litka.

Remembering Our Grandfathers Exile written by Gail Y. Okawa and has been published by University of Hawaii Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-08-31 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

When author Gail Okawa was in high school in Honolulu, a neighbor mentioned that her maternal grandfather had been imprisoned in a World War II concentration camp on the US mainland. Questioning her parents, she learned only that “he came back a changed man.” Years later, as an adult salvaging that grandfather’s memorabilia, she found a mysterious photo of a group of Japanese men standing in front of an adobe building, compelling her eventually to embark on a project to learn what happened to him. Remembering Our Grandfathers’ Exile is a composite chronicling of the Hawai‘i Japanese immigrant experience in mainland exile and internment during World War II, from pre-war climate to arrest to exile to return. Told through the eyes of a granddaughter and researcher born during the war, it is also a research narrative that reveals parallels between pre-WWII conditions and current twenty-first century anti-immigrant attitudes and heightened racism. The book introduces Okawa’s grandfather, Reverend Tamasaku Watanabe, a Protestant minister, and other Issei prisoners—all legal immigrants excluded by law from citizenship—in a collective biographical narrative that depicts their suffering, challenges, and survival as highly literate men faced with captivity in the little-known prison camps run by the U.S. Justice and War Departments. Okawa interweaves documents, personal and official, and internees’ firsthand accounts, letters, and poetry to create a narrative that not only conveys their experience but, equally important, exemplifies their literacy as ironic and deliberate acts of resistance to oppressive conditions. Her research revealed that the Hawai‘i Issei/immigrants who had sons in military service were eventually distinguished from the main group; the narrative relates visits of some of those sons to their imprisoned fathers in New Mexico and elsewhere, as well as the deaths of sons killed in action in Europe and the Pacific. Documents demonstrate the high degree of literacy and advocacy among the internees, as well as the inherent injustice of the government’s policies. Okawa’s project later expanded to include New Mexico residents having memories of the Santa Fe Internment Camp—witnesses who provide rare views of the wartime reality.
