This is a biography of two wonderful women who were instrumental in bringing public awareness for the mentally disabled in 1940s to 1980s and a little girl with Down syndrome. Irene Otteman and Margaret McQuiston dedicated their lives to making a better world for the mentally disabled. The story explains difficulties, challenges, and successes. It includes hopes, dreams, and emotional turmoil. It talks about lifestyle changes and how far society has come in recognizing those who are different. Programs the two started in Central Michigan include the Day Center, which was the first educational opportunity for mentally disabled children in Isabella County Michigan. (Education was not available before these two women became advocates for the mentally disabled.) A parents association became part of the Mt. Pleasant Regional Center, also known as the State Home and Training School, because Margaret and Irene became involved. In addition, Irene was the first to suggest Central Michigan University Special Olympics and Devine Houses for the Disabled. The parents association, Association of Interfaith Ministry, and Mid-Michigan Industries are all historical parts of those early beginnings. The world is a better place because of people like Irene and Margaret, who went the extra mile in helping those who couldnt help themselves.

Angel Creek is a book for anyone who has ever felt scared or brave or selfish or tough. If you like Skellig or Journey to the River Sea, you'll fall in love with this. There are only two things Jelly likes about her new falling-down house: the old apricot tree and the creek over the back fence. One night, Jelly and her cousins spot something in the creek's dark waters. At first they think it's a bird, but it isn't . . . It's a baby angel with a broken wing. And they decide to keep it. But soon things start to go wrong, and Jelly discovers that you can’t just take something from where it belongs and expect that it won’t be missed. A truly moving angel story.

Have you ever heard the expression, "What you don't know can't hurt you." Well, this story is more like "what you can't see won't hurt you," or can it? All around us, there is another dimension that no human can see or feel, except to those whom are chosen. They will team up with the Secret Service of Angels, and one of the chosen ones is trying to solve an eight-year-old mystery. Maria's grandparents were presumably killed by what was called an act of nature. She will be accompanied by a friend from her adolescent years, Robert McDaniel, who will make their journey together complete and unforgettable. Maria Thomson will discover that her grandfather's stories were not just stories but facts about a secret life he and her grandmother shared. Tobit, Maria's grandfather, was in the military, and he also was a CID (Criminal Investigation Command) agent. But there was a special agency within the agency that very few knew about. Now after eight years, Lieutenant Maria Thompson and Corporal Robert McDaniel both in the Marine Corps will be involved in a battle that no human could ever prepare themselves for. Maria and Robert will devote themselves to a mystery they were destined to solve. On Maria's grandparents Sarah and Tobit Wright's estate, they will find a box that holds visions that must not get into the enemy's hands. And this enemy is the prince of darkness--the one whom some say does not exist. And that is what he wants the world to believe. His ancient fallen angels will bring all their evil powers to stop Maria and Robert. The angels of the Lord will also do what they were created for: to weed the fields of the world and bring home the good seeds--the children of the kingdom. Just like the parable of the weeds in the field. The Explanation of the Parable of the Weeds Then, dismissing the crowds, he went into the house. His disciples approached him and said, "Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field." He said in reply, "He who sows good seed is the Son of Man, the field is the world, the good seed the children of the kingdom. The weeds are the children of the evil one, and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. Just as weeds are collected and burned [up] with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his kingdom all who cause others to sin and all evildoers. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears ought to hear. (Matthew 13:36-43)

Only the God Knows is a labor of profound love. Despite what appeared to be an unnecessary burden to many outsiders, caring for Sally provided our family with insight, compassion, and a deep trust in God. In a remarkable parallel to Flowers for Algernon’s main character, Charlie Gordon, Sally defied the predictions of her medical staff by overcoming the debilitation of a genetic disorder and transforming from complete dependence as a child to a productive member of society. Like Charlie, Sally’s life ended tragically—hers the result of a traumatic head injury that occurred during her early adolescence. In addition to a biographical lens that peers deeply into the life of an individual with multiple handicaps, Only the God Knows provides a historical handbook that critically evaluates the ongoing development of the various agencies involved in supporting our nation’s disabled population. Only the God Knows is intended to provide struggling families, experiencing frustrations similar to ours, with knowledge, awareness, and determination in order to independently research and seek the appropriate services that extend beyond the well-intended advice of professionals in the field.

We all long for certainty in life, yet things often don't go as we expect. When facing illness, job loss, strained relationships, and other struggles, our impulse is to question God and strive to fix things ourselves. In this book, Shelly Miller, a trusted ministry leader, explores how difficult times can actually be purposeful times of spiritual growth. Weaving the exodus story from the Bible with her own story, she shares how to focus on God rather than trying to overcome challenges in our own limited strength. Each chapter features a simple spiritual practice to help us enjoy the peace and security that is only possible through Christ. Uncertain seasons will soon be translated as an aha instead of an oh no.
