De todos os livros da Bíblia, o livro dos Salmos tem ocupado um lugar de desta-que na experiência cristã. É impossível subestimar o significado deste livro de poesias inspiradas, tanto para os judeus como para os cristãos de todos os séculos. O Saltério era o livro de cânticos usado no templo de Salomão, ao qual outros salmos e poesias foram acrescentados. É bom saber que a compilação dos 150 salmos é pós-exílica, e não temos nenhuma informação a respeito do critério usado. Os salmos foram me-morizados pela igreja primitiva e cantados no mundo todo. Eles exerceram grande influência na era da Reforma. Durante três mil anos os salmos têm desempenhado um grande papel na vida do povo de Deus, alimentando crianças e jovens, orientando peregrinos, apaixonando reformadores, inspirando pregadores e confortando cristãos atribulados. No AT, o povo de Deus fazia uso dos salmos quando ia adorar ao Senhor no templo, e os judeus de hoje continuam a usá-los nas sinagogas. Como notamos em Colossenses 3.16 e Tiago 5.13, os cristãos do NT também os cantavam, e, nos dias de hoje, quantos hinos e cânticos espirituais são baseados na letra dos salmos! Mas é na vida individual que o uso deles tem sido tão abençoado – na hora das provações, nas tentações, na tristeza e nas alegrias. De fato, os salmos são um grande tesouro de consolo e encorajamento. Não é possível estudar em dezessete lições todos os 150 salmos. A finalidade desta revista é estudar alguns dos mais representativos entre os vários tipos, com o intuito de levar nossos prezados leitores a um estudo mais profundo deste livro poético.
