He was the commanding officer, a captain in charge of national army, at the Bentiu military garrison, when Chevron discovered oil in Unity state in 1978. Because he could not be trusted by Khartoum, being a southerner and ex-Anyanya officer, he was immediately transferred to Malakal, and northern troops under northern command were brought in and placed in charge of the newly discovered southern oilfields. In 1994, he survived a plane crash in Kapenguria, Kenya, when a chartered plane he was travelling in from Wilson Airport, Nairobi, to Nimule fell from over 25,000 feet, killing all passengers including the pilot, except Salva Kiir and his body guard. He escaped unscathed, with only minor injuries to his arm. As president, he later survived a joint Egyptian-Sudanese assassination plot on his life, according to Wikileak Dossier. He is the only surviving founding member of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A). He has been described as the 'Biblical Joshua' who led his beleaguered people to the "Promised Land shortly after the rise and fall of Moses." His name is President Salva Kiir Mayaardit, the current president of the Republic of South Sudan. Kiir Kuethpiny Thiik Atem-popularly known as Salva Kiir Mayaardit-was born on the 13th of September, 1951, into a pastoral Dinka family in Akon village of the Awan-Chan Dinka Community, Gogrial District in Warrap state, Bahr el Ghazal Region of the historical Sudan. He was the eighth of the family's nine children-six boys and three girls-born to Kuethpiny Thiik Atem of Awan-Chan (Payum clan) and Awiei Rou Wol Tong of Awan-Chan (Payii clan), both of Gogrial Dinka from the REK Dinka community. This book contains President Salva Kiir Mayaardit's speeches before the glorious independence of South Sudan on July 9th, 2011, after more than 50 years of continuous war since 1955. The speeches and writings are a living testimony to the cherished aspiration and strong determination of the South Sudanese people to fight for and achieved their liberation.

Before South Sudan got it independence, Sudan was at civil wars for two centuries. The first civil war started in 1955 and ended in 1972 in an Agreement signed in Addis Ababa. The Accords gave South Sudan Autonomy Government, but was terminated later after ten years, and also after the abolition laws apply all over the Sudan. The September Laws has discriminately particular group bases on races, religion and colour and ethnicity. Because Sharia laws were applied all over the country, the officers of the South Sudan army of 105 and 104 battalion rejected Jafaar order by threatening to quell Jafaar order military. As a result Numery send machines forces to Bor to quell Kerubino mutiny in May 1983. Because Jafar order was resist, the fighting erupted at Battalion 105 Barack in Bor, where Kerubino forces defeated and a large number of Jafaar forces killed including Jafaar second commander. Because William Nyon was accused by aliening with Kerubino and Anya-Anya two forces. Therefore, President Jafaar Numery issued order of arresting him and he is brought to Khartoum for trial. After Bor and Ayod wars was over, the SPLM/A was formed with the two different ideologies “separation” and “secular united Sudan”. The separatist and unionist ideology was the cause of the split and the death of many founding fathers of the nation SPLM/A. In 1997, the split groups signed the agreement known as Khartoum Agreement with regime in Khartoum. In 2002 the SPLM/A and some of the split groups re-joined once again and unify their forces with Garang’s forces, until Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) signed in Nairobi- Kenya in 2005 After CPA, the Transitional Government of National Unity was formed in Sudan and the rights of self-determination were exercised and the 99.9% vote for separation leading to the declaration of independence of the South Sudan on 9 July 2011. After 2 years from independence the war within SPLM (Kiir and Riek) broke out in Juba where thousands killed. Due to some reservations from the Kiir and Machar dogfight erupted in J1 in 2016 until 2018 Revitalise Agreement signed.

This book examines post-colonial and post-independence challenges facing South Sudan, both external and internal factors as it transitions into becoming a nation state. Other focuses are issues that hinder the implementation of good governance, delivery of services to the people, preservation of the environment and natural resources, and the unity among South Sudans multiple ethnicities. The book also briefly touches on my personal journey in pursuit of elementary and higher education, a rough journey that began in a country that has been ravaged by a civil war. Therefore, it would serve as informative and inspirational to those who may face difficult experiences as a refugee or emigrants. In addition, this book supposed to be published in the summer of 2013; however, the author was caught in a civil war that broke out while on a visit in South Sudan and he escaped near death twice, in the Juba massacres of the Nuers and the attack on his home town of Ulang, all were carried out by the South Sudan military, ordered by countrys leader, Salva Kiir Mayardit. As a result, the author was stranded in the remote area of South Sudan for more than a year before he could finally return to the United States. Since this book is written from Social Responsibility and Social Justice perspectives, it addresses some of the issues that affect individual and the society as whole. And some of the Issues covered in this book were among the forecasting challenges and problems that are now facing people of South Sudan under the leadership of Salva Kiir and some of them came to reality as I predicted them during the writings of this book.

"In the late nineteenth century, much of the southern region of what is today Sudan was considered ungovernable hinterland. Britain at this time had occupied the northern region (or Egypt), and treated the natives in southern Sudan as either savages or backward peoples. Its empire had reached new heights and stretched from Southeast Asia and the Middle East to northern parts of Africa. And there were now new "civilization standards" that defined the parameters of the 'civilized state', and that gave rise to agreements (e.g., at the 1885 Berlin Conference) which allowed it to assert administrative control over its occupied territories in Africa. Colonization had also propelled Britain's superior military technology and the need to draw on this advantage to extract raw materials for its rapidly industrializing economy. Morally, Britain saw itself as the civilizer or savior (of the backward natives), which, in helping to end much of the slave trade, was also bent on modernizing key parts of the region, i.e., improving education and roads"--

About the Book In depth, comprehensive, and extensively researched, South Sudan’s Endless Sorrows chronicles the complex history of South Sudan and its long, bitter struggle for freedom. South Sudan’s long battle with colonization and invasion of foreign powers began as early as the twelfth century and has continued up until the twentieth century, when the struggle for liberation came to a long period of bloody civil unrest and war. To this day, South Sudan still struggles to find its own identity, voice, and freedom. With a devout love of his homeland and the people he holds dear, Gatluak’s history of South Sudan doubles as a heart-wrenching plea for intervention, compromise, and peace in the country that has been ransacked by violence for centuries. About the Author Lul Gatkuoth Gatluak is a South Sudanese American born in the Puldeng village near Bilpam, at the border of South Sudan and Ethiopia. Clash Of Tyranny And Justice written by Garang Kuot Kuot and has been published by Xlibris Corporation this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-03-23 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Clash of Justice and Tyranny is a detailed account of an unparalleled miscarriage of justice that involved an arbitrary arrest and the lengthy incarceration of eighteen people in the Northern Bahr el Ghazal State in South Sudan. The circumstances and details of what transpired as narrated in this book are rare; it is hard to believe that something this heinous could be inflicted on innocent individuals. Readers may find it incredulous how brutality and tyranny could be so callously deployed to destroy personalities on false charges. The book is about eighteen government officials who ended up being framed for embezzlement and arrested by the South Sudan strongman General Paul Malong Awan, who was at the time the governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State. Malong was well known for his brutality and absolute disregard for the rule of law. He led Northern Bahr el Ghazal State with an iron fist, turning it into a police state. Fourteen of the eighteen officials were thrown into prison on his orders and locked up in a tiny disciplinary room of death. It was by the grace of God that they survived the harsh conditions of the infamous room 11 that had already claimed the lives of many inmates. All eighteen were denied bail, and the government rejected their request to transfer the case to court. The government effectively became the judge and plaintiff at the same time. The ironic aspect of the case was that thirteen of the eighteen officials had provided loan to the government, which was in dire financial straits. The government defaulted on the loans and had the men arrested. It was a case of the guilty punishing the innocent in an unprecedented display of abuse of power. The conclusion of the case was unbelievably anomalous; detainees were told to go without a proper explanation for their confinement in prison. The eighteen were not publicly cleared or apologized to for the crimes committed against them. They were not compensated for the serious damages they incurred in terms of physical pain, emotional torture, and material loss. The whole case ended as it had begun—surprisingly abnormally.

Sudan is at a crossroads. The country could soon witness one of the first partitions of an African state since the colonial era. The 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement guarantees a referendum on self determination for Southern Sudan, which is scheduled for January 2011. The agreement ended a 20-year old civil war pitting the indigenous population against successive Arab Muslim regimes in Khartoum. By the late 1990s the international community had largely judged the war insoluble and turned its attention elsewhere. Following the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001 a peace process between the government of Sudan and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement and Army (SPLM/A) took hold. This book shows how that war, which ultimately claimed two million deaths and twice as many displaced, was finally brought to an end. The talks were facilitated by IGAD under Kenyan leadership, and supported by a 'Troika' of the US, UK, and Norway -- whose intense engagement in the negotiations was critical for reaching the peace agreement in January 2005. Although the cast of characters in this drama ranged from President George W Bush and Secretary of State Colin Powell to unnamed officials in east African hotels, two figures stood out: the SPLM/A Chairman, Dr John Garang, and Ali Osman Taha, First Vice President of Sudan. Norwegian Minister of International Development Hilde F Johnson's personal relationships with these two leaders gave her unique access and provided the basis for her pivotal role in the negotiations. She was party to virtually all their deliberations throughout this crucial period of Sudanese and African history. This book describes this process from a unique, insider's perspective. Her account provides a level of detail seldom achieved in works of contemporary African history and diplomacy. As Sudan soon faces the most decisive moment in its history, this book is indispensable reading.
