Application and re-Interpretation of biblical traditions in the Book of Malachi. A traditio-historical study. Six passages in Malachi, together with the superscription (Mal 1:1) and the additions (Mal 3:22‐24), are analyzed. The creative use of the traditions is demonstrated, including the prophet's exegetical techniques. Lines of connections are detected between Malachi and legal texts (Leviticus and Deuteronomy), earlier prophetic words, Chronicles, and Wisdom literature.

Peter Riede untersucht erstmals die Vielleicht-Aussagen des Alten Testaments in ihrem jeweiligen Gesamtkontext. Dabei fällt auf, dass sich diese Aussagen auf zwei große Verwendungszusammenhänge beziehen, einerseits auf das Handeln und Hoffen Gottes, andererseits auf zwischenmenschliche Handlungen und Hoffnungen, wobei auch hier oft ein hintergründiges (Mit-)Wirken Gottes zu verzeichnen ist, mit dem er die Menschen auf ihrem Lebensweg begleitet. Vielleicht-Aussagen sind oft auf die Wende einer notvollen Situation bezogen und somit zukunftsorientiert, bieten sie doch einen Ermöglichungsraum, der je und je mit konkretem Inhalt gefüllt werden kann. Das Vielleicht ist dabei ein Zwischenstadium auf dem Hoffnungsweg, an dessen Ende, so die Hoffnung der Menschen, sich die notvolle Ausgangssituation gewandelt hat. In entscheidender Weise prägen Vielleicht-Aussagen das alttestamentliche Gottesbild, stoßen in ihnen doch Unverfügbarkeit und Wandelbarkeit Gottes aufeinander.

After Ernst Jenni's three well known basic volumes dealing with the Hebrew prepositions Beth, Kaph and Lamed a further study of the third most common preposition in Biblical Hebrew and Aramaic was a scholarly desideratum. This study of the preposition Min is presented here. The aim is to advance linguistic research on the Old Testament and to help to clarify a number of linguistic and semantic doubts and translation problems. Some new paths are being taken: The polysemous network that forms Min is systematically presented, the system of Hebrew prepositions is expanded to include an overall theory and the question of the logical subject in passive sentences is answered in a new way. This means that around 80% of all references to prepositions in the Old Testament have now been recorded and analysed.

Die direkten Zitate im Hebräerbrief gehen vermutlich auf eine Vorlage aus der Septuaginta zurück, sind aber bislang kaum erforscht. Von einer traditionsgeschichtlichen und einer textkritischen Perspektive aus geht Gert J. Steyn dieser Sachlage auf den Grund. Er folgt damit der im Hebräerbrief angelegten Struktur, die zwei verschiedene Arten von Zitaten kennt, die paarweise aufgeführt werden: primär Liedtexte und Zitate aus der Torah, die sich mit Psalm- und Prophetenworten vermischen. Gert J. Steyn untersucht jedes Zitat auf dem Hintergrund der möglichen alternativen Vorlage(n). Im Verlauf der Studie wird deutlich, dass der Briefautor selbst eine ganze Reihe an Zitaten aus der frühen jüdischen und der frühen christlichen Tradition kombiniert hat.

Life is a primary theme in Scripture, expressed in the rich diversity of the various books, corpora and genres of Scripture. Much has been published on what Scripture teaches about life and death. To date, however, no comprehensive biblical theology in which the concept of life is traced throughout the different books and corpora of the Old and New Testament has been published. It is this lacuna that this book aims to fill, assuming that such an approach can provide a valuable contribution to the theological discourse on life and related concepts. The primary aim of this book is to give an indication of the different nuances of the concept of life in the various books and corpora of the Old and New Testament by providing the reader with a book-by-book overview of the concept of life in Scripture. The secondary aim is to give an indication of the overall use and function of the concept of life in the Old Testament, the New Testament, and Scripture as a whole. The latter is provided by using the findings of the book-by-book overview of the concept of life in Scripture to draw the lines together.
