You are getting ready for a performance of Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore and you have a few questions. How many clarinets are in the orchestra? How many orchestra members appear onstage? How many different sets are there? How long does the opera typically run? What are the key arias? Are any special effects or ballet choreography required? Who owns the rights? Where was it premiered? What are the leading and supporting roles? The Opera Manual is the only single source for the answers to these and other important questions. It is the ultimate companion for opera lovers, professionals, scholars, and teachers, featuring comprehensive information about, and plot summaries for, more than 550 operas—including every opera that is likely to be performed today, from standard to rediscovered contemporary works. The book is invaluable, especially for opera professionals, who will find everything they need for choosing and staging operas. But it is also a treasure for listeners. Similar reference books commonly skip over scenes and supporting characters in their plot summaries, lacking even the most basic facts about staging, orchestral, and vocal requirements. The Opera Manual, based on the actual scores of the works discussed, is the only exhaustive, up-to-date opera companion—a “recipe book” that will enable its readers to explore those operas they know and discover new ones to sample and enjoy.

Life Of Mozart written by Otto Jahn and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1882 with Composers categories.

In terms of musical composition, all but the first five of his thirty-five years were astoundingly productive for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-91). A stream of glorious symphonies, piano concertos, chamber music, operas and the sublime but unfinished Requiem poured from his pen. The author was inspired to write a scholarly biography of Mozart following a conversation at Mendelssohn's funeral in 1847. He immersed himself in intensive research on the composer and his music, publishing the first edition of this landmark work in four volumes between 1856 and 1859. A second edition followed in 1867, incorporating new material and making use of Köchel's 1862 catalogue of Mozart's works. It is from this edition that Pauline D. Townsend made her three-volume English translation, first published in 1882.

Recognition In Mozart S Operas written by Jessica Waldoff and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-04-13 with Music categories.

Since its beginnings, opera has depended on recognition as a central aspect of both plot and theme. Though a standard feature of opera, recognition--a moment of new awareness that brings about a crucial reversal in the action--has been largely neglected in opera studies. In Recognition in Mozart's Operas, musicologist Jessica Waldoff draws on a broad base of critical thought on recognition from Aristotle to Terence Cave to explore the essential role it plays in Mozart's operas. The result is a fresh approach to the familiar question of opera as drama and a persuasive new reading of Mozart's operas.

Un Avvertimento Ai Gelosi written by Manuel Garcia and has been published by A-R Editions, Inc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-11-01 with Music categories.

This is the first publication of Un avvertimento ai gelosi (1831), a one-act “salon opera” for six singers and piano by Manuel del Pópulo Vicente Rodríguez García (1775–1832). Renowned as one of the leading tenor virtuosos of his generation, García was also an esteemed teacher who shared valuable bel canto techniques with his students, including his famous children, Maria Malibran, Pauline Viardot, and Manuel Patricio García, whose historic treatises document his father’s method. A prolific composer, García’s works were applauded in Madrid, Naples, Paris, London, New York, and Mexico City. Un avvertimento ai gelosi (A Warning to Those Who Are Jealous) was designed to prepare García’s students for demanding operatic careers. Based on a comic farsa, this delightful opera displays the composer’s highly florid vocal style in brilliant arias and ensembles. The edition presents the score and libretto (with translation) and also provides detailed performance notes derived from García’s teaching method, including improvised ornamentation.
