Nel giugno del 1783 i fratelli Montgolfier aprirono la via delle nuvole con un mezzo “più leggero dell’aria”, la mongolfiera; 120 anni dopo, altri due fratelli, Wilbur e Orville Wright, conquistarono la terza dimensione con un mezzo “più pensate dell’aria”, l’aeroplano. Due modi differenti per raggiungere quello che Wilbur definì “il più grande desiderio dell’umanità”: volare. In questa breve storia del volo, vengono raccontate le gesta di quanti con ardore e follia, criterio e scelleratezza hanno tentato la via dei cieli: sono quei temerari che per guadagnarsi il sogno hanno messo in conto ossa rotte e cadute rovinose. Di alcuni è rimasta la gloria e il ricordo scolpito nella storia, ad altri un nome perduto nelle cronache di un tempo che fu. E quando a inizio Novecento si diffondono i primi brevetti di pilota, l’era pionieristica del volo inizia a volgere al termine. Ma per quei temerari a bordo di macchine volanti questo significa solo compiere imprese sempre più ardite lungo la via delle nuvole.

The Sacred Home in Renaissance Italy explores the rich devotional life of the Italian household between 1450 and 1600. Rejecting the enduring stereotype of the Renaissance as a secular age, this interdisciplinary study reveals the home to have been an important site of spiritual revitalization. Books, buildings, objects, spaces, images, and archival sources are scrutinized to cast new light on the many ways in which religion infused daily life within the household. Acts of devotion, from routine prayers to extraordinary religious experiences such as miracles and visions, frequently took place at home amid the joys and trials of domestic life — from childbirth and marriage to sickness and death. Ennesima giornata frenetica per Sarti Antonio, sergente della Questura di Bologna. Appena rientrato da un turno di servizio, ancora in tenuta antisommossa viene convocato d'urgenza dall'ispettore capo: al ricco imprenditore Giulio Messini è stata appena rubata la sua lussuosa jeep Grand Cherokee. Sarti Antonio pensa subito alla nuova fidanzata della vittima, Marcella Carlotti, detta Rasputin, dietro alla quale sta da tempo nella speranza di prenderla con le mani nel sacco. Anzi, sul volante delle troppe auto rubate negli ultimi tempi a Bologna. Ma con la Grand Cherokee del Messini, Rasputin non ha avuto fortuna: sul pianale dell'auto ha trovato una sorpresa che l'ha sconvolta e ora, in una piovosa notte di primavera sui colli attorno a Bologna, telefona a Sarti Antonio per chiedergli aiuto. Non basta. A complicare ulteriormente le cose, l'"Elegante" e indisponente (o così la pensa Sarti) Giulio Messini denuncia il furto di un dipinto, tanto bizzarro quanto sinistro, chiamato La scimmia che ride, di un pittore del Settecento, Francesco Malagoli. Uno strano furto, visto che i ladri hanno preso il Malagoli e ignorato un Guido Reni che vale molto, molto di più. C'è qualcosa, c'è molto che non funziona a Bologna e forse Rasputin potrebbe aiutare il questurino a capirci di più. Ma Rasputin sparisce. Seguendo le sue tracce, Sarti Antonio si trova invischiato nel caso più ingarbugliato e sanguinoso che mai gli sia capitato fra le mani, al punto che gli accade di "passare dall'altra parte", interrogato come persona informata dei fatti, e rischia addirittura l'arresto. Chi è il misterioso Samir, sospetto terrorista islamico che si accompagna a Rasputin, braccato da due spietati killer? Per quale motivo tutte le piste sembrano condurre alle rovine fantasma de L'Aquila post terremoto? Che legame c'è tra La scimmia che ride e una fantomatica unità commando britannica in azione nei giorni più oscuri del collasso del regime fascista? Che cosa ha portato al coinvolgimento diretto dei Servizi segreti italiani, della CIA e di un misterioso uomo politico? Quale ruolo gioca l'enigmatico, pericoloso Uomochefuma?
