For Christians, memories of God given in the Christian Bible are juxtaposed, echoed, and expanded within and outside Christian communities of faith. In Saving Memory and the Body of Christ, Sedgwick argues, Christians are attuned to the polyphony that is the voice of God calling those who have ears to hear into the love and grace of God in life together. Sharing together in the Eucharist, he goes on to describe, Christians remember, celebrate, and are drawn into life in God as imaged in the Greek word ‘kenosis,’ meaning emptying oneself. Christian faith is accordingly what the Latin word ‘credo’ means: to give one’s heart to God, hence, to give oneself in faith and fidelity to the memory of God. In the memory of God, Christian faith is a practical piety. In prayer and worship Christians remember and respond to the call of God to life lived in the grace and love of God, in the glory of creation, in birth and death, in sickness and health, in compassion and care for one another in creation. This is the birth of moral conscience, hearing in the voice of others what claims those who have faith and calls for response.

Vera was an extraordinary woman, mother, and wife. We explored many countries, cities, and states such as Holland, Eindhoven, New York, South Carolina, Miami, Curaçao, Germany, France, Spain, Israel, London. Settling down was never easy for me, but she made it work for us; it was a blessing. In London, she started her own personal journey to add more meaning to her life. She became a member of a parent group and then became a lollipop lady who was loved by everyone. She later endeavored on becoming a teaching assistant for age groups ranging from nursery to year 6 at Blessed Dominic Catholic Primary School. She successfully worked there until she became ill. In memory of a wonderful journey with Veneranda “Vera” Pallara, I would like to share with you a chapter in Vera’s life that I can say I have had the privilege, honor, and joy to have had experienced with her and our kids—Sarah, Jacob, and Joy. Like a true champion, she ran a race with us in this world. Now she has passed her baton over to us to continue her legacy, and so we shall in God’s grace. Vera departed on August 23, 2018, and so I say, “Eternal rest, grant her, Lord. Shine your perpetual light upon her. May she rest in peace now until all have been called to your glorious resurrection as it’s written, when you died in Christ, you shall live in Christ. Amen.”

Stop Asking Jesus Into Your Heart written by J. D. Greear and has been published by B&H Publishing Group this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-02-01 with Religion categories.

“If there were a Guinness Book of World Records entry for ‘amount of times having prayed the sinner’s prayer,’ I’m pretty sure I’d be a top contender,” says pastor and author J. D. Greear. He struggled for many years to gain an assurance of salvation and eventually learned he was not alone. “Lack of assurance” is epidemic among evangelical Christians. In Stop Asking Jesus Into Your Heart, J. D. shows that faulty ways of present- ing the gospel are a leading source of the confusion. Our presentations may not be heretical, but they are sometimes misleading. The idea of “asking Jesus into your heart” or “giving your life to Jesus” often gives false assurance to those who are not saved—and keeps those who genuinely are saved from fully embracing that reality. Greear unpacks the doctrine of assurance, showing that salvation is a posture we take to the promise of God in Christ, a posture that begins at a certain point and is maintained for the rest of our lives. He also answers the tough questions about assurance: What exactly is faith? What is repentance? Why are there so many warnings that seem to imply we can lose our salvation? Such issues are handled with respect to the theological rigors they require, but Greear never loses his pastoral sensitivity or a communication technique that makes this message teachable to a wide audience from teens to adults.

This book brings together work by J. Ramsey Michaels, Joel Green, Howard Marshall, Bruce Chilton, Craig Evans and the editors, as well as several others. The first section covers baptism in the New Testament, including the meaning of the word "baptize," the baptism of John, Paul's own baptism and his theology of it, and baptisms in John 13, Acts and Hebrews. The second section deals with baptism in the Early Church, including essays on Jesus' blessing of the children, and baptism in the Epistle of Barnabas and in Gregory of Nyssa. The third section addresses baptism in contemporary theology, embracing ecumenical perspectives, baptism as a trinitarian event, and baptism as memorial, as miracle and as falling into and out of power. This wide-ranging volume forms a sequel to Baptism, the New Testament and the Church (JSNT Supplements 171) and makes indispensable reading for all concerned with this topic.

Offers a number of timely insights and incisive reminders for those in pastoral education: the need to instill more than techniques; the insistence that the focus of Jesus' life was not the needs of other people, but dedication to his Father; the absolute centrality of prayer; the ministry of absence and 'creative withdrawal'; the necessity of avoiding the illusion of indispensability.

This study moves beyond postmodern trends in Catholic eucharistic theology by exploring the works of Bernard Lonergan and Louis-Marie Chauvet: “Having learned from both Chauvet’s critique of metaphysics and Lonergan’s development of a critical metaphysics, we hope to offer a fruitful understanding of traditional eucharistic doctrines that is able to respond to some contemporary problems and shed some light on the great mystery that stands at the center of Christian worship” (from the introduction). Postmodern theologians have been critical of using metaphysics to interpret the presence of Christ in the Eucharist, liturgical sacrifice, and sacramental causality, preferring instead a symbolic approach. Lonergan’s critical metaphysics, however, offers an account of knowing and being that resists attempts to pit metaphysics against the symbolic and moves sacramental theology into the real world of meaning. The result is a theology of the Eucharist grounded in tradition that speaks to today’s believers.
