This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1882 edition. Excerpt: ... chapter ix. Dalginross--Cowden--Blairinroar--Drummond Castle--Ardoch--Drummond-Ernoch. "Breathes there a man, with soul so dead, Who never to himself has said--This is my own, my native land! Whose heart hath ne'er within him burned, As home his footsteps he hath turned, From wandering on a foreign strand! If such there breathe, go, mark him well: For him no minstrel raptures swell; High though his titles, proud his name, Boundless his wealth, as wish can claim; Despite those titles, power, and pelf, The wretch concentred all in self, Living, shall forfeit fair renown, And doubly dying, shall go down To the vile dust, from whence he sprung, Unwept, unhonoured, and unsung. Scott. The tourist leaving Comrie for Blairinroar, after crossing the six-arched bridge of Comrie, reaches Dalginross. It is a pleasant part of the village. The pedestrian instead of proceeding all the way to Blairinroar by the turnpike road, will find a good path which strikes due south from the head of Dalginross. He will see on his right the manse of Comrie, built in 1784, with a commanding view of the strath on all sides; and on his left the farm-house of Cowden. This small property was bought by the grandfather of Mr M'Innes, the present proprietor. The farm-house must be one of the oldest in the district, as we observe by a stone in the building, it was built in the year 1707--a year memorable in the annals of our country. Mr Peter M'Innes, who died in 1847, was long a highly respected elder in Comrie, first in the Established and afterwards in the Free...
