Die erschütternden Leiden des H'Mong-Volkes in Laos sind Realität bis zum heutigen Tag. Die Handlung des Buches ist fiktiv. Aber sie könnte sich so zugetragen haben. Der Autor will Lesern der westlichen Welt die Augen für das Los dieser Menschen öffnen, er will sie bewegen, einige Übel in diesem Teil der Welt zur Kenntnis zu nehmen. Der Handlung liegt die Realität zu Grunde. Die H'mong (In China: Miao, in Thailand: Meo, hill tribe, in Vietnam Flower H'mong, Black H'mong und White H'mong, entsprechend ihrer bevorzugten Kleidung) werden in Laos bis zum heutigen Tage unbarmherzig verfolgt. Grund ist der Kampf auf französischer und danach amerikanischer Seite in Französisch Indochina bis zur Niederlage in Dien Bien Phu bzw. dem Fall Saigons (Ho Chi Minh Stadt) in Vietnam. Außerdem kämpften H’mong im Laotischen Bürgerkrieg auf Seiten der Royalisten. All dies wird ihnen noch heute angelastet, obwohl vier bis sieben Jahrzehnte seitdem vergangen sind und von den alten Kämpfern fast keiner mehr lebt. Das kommunistische Regime in Vientiane betreibt die blutige Verfolgung und systematische Ausrottung der H’mong. Der Inhalt zeigt in äußerst spannender Form, wie der Autor und sein Neffe, als Protagonisten und uninformierte Touristen, auf eine kleine Gruppe von H’mong-Menschen in der Ebene der Tonkrüge trifft, von denen eine Anzahl durch laotische Soldaten niedergemetzelt wurde. Sie fassen den naiven Entschluss, diesen Leuten zur Flucht zu verhelfen. Diese Fluchthilfe führt sie in ein dramatisches, abenteuerliches und gefährliches Geschehen in Laos und Vietnam, bei der die Handvoll H’mong zu einer Gruppe von mehr als tausend Menschen angewachsen ist. Der zweite Teil des Romans schildert die gnadenlose Rache eines Militärs an seinen hochrangigen Kameraden in Spanien und der USA, wie schließlich den vergeblichen Versuch, die beiden Protagonisten in Deutschland zu eliminieren.

Gregor Samsa wacht eines Morgens auf und stellt fest, dass er "zu einem ungeheueren Ungeziefer verwandelt" wurde. Er hält diese Verwandlung anfangs nur für vorübergehend und stellt sich erst langsam den verschiedenen Konsequenzen seiner unfreiwilligen Metamorphose. Zunächst unfähig aufzustehen und das Bett zu verlassen, reflektiert Gregor über seinen Beruf als Handelsreisender und Tuchhändler: Die auszehrende Tätigkeit, von einem "nie herzlich werdenden menschlichen Verkehr" gekennzeichnet, nimmt ihn völlig in Anspruch. Wäre er nicht alleiniger Familienernährer, der die Schulden seines bankrottgegangenen Vaters abarbeiten muss, würde er augenblicklich kündigen und dem despotischen Arbeitgeber "vom Grunde seines Herzens aus" die Meinung sagen. So aber ist er in anscheinend unüberwindbare ökonomische Abhängigkeitsverhältnisse verstrickt. Franz Kafka (1883-1924) war ein deutschsprachiger Schriftsteller. Sein Hauptwerk bilden neben drei Romanfragmenten (Der Process, Das Schloss und Der Verschollene) zahlreiche Erzählungen.

Long treated as peripheral to music history, dance has become prominent within musicological research, as a prime and popular subject for an increasing number of books, articles, conference papers and special symposiums. Despite this growing interest, there remains no thorough-going critical examination of the ways in which musicologists might engage with dance, thinking not only about specific repertoires or genres, but about fundamental commonalities between the two, including embodiment, agency, subjectivity and consciousness. This volume begins to fill this gap. Ten chapters illustrate a range of conceptual, historical and interpretive approaches that advance the interdisciplinary study of music and dance. This methodological eclecticism is a defining feature of the volume, integrating insights from critical theory, film and cultural studies, the visual arts, phenomenology, cultural anthropology and literary criticism into the study of music and dance.
