Sejak di Yogyakarta, aku sering melihat anak-anak vespa bergerombol, tampak akrab suasana yang terbangun di antara mereka. Aku mendengar cerita dari teman-teman tentang touring yang sering dilakukan oleh klub-klub vespa di kota Yogyakarta juga. Aku menunjukkan ketertarikan yang lumayan tinggi atas cerita mereka. Di kampus, satu orang temanku menebarkan virus vespa. Dia sendiri sudah lama menggunakan kendaraan itu. Menurut ceritanya, dia sudah beberapa kali touring dan pernah pulang ke kampung halamannya di Palembang berkendara vespa. Tampaknya aku adalah salah satu orang yang terserang virus vespa itu. Keinginanku untuk punya vespa dan mengendarai vespa menjadi semakin besar. Akhirnya, kuberanikan mengambil sedikit risiko. Separuh uang kiriman dari orangtua selama empat bulan kupotong untuk membeli sebuah vespa. Walaupun tergolong mahal menurut orang-orang, aku berhasil memiliki vespa sendiri. Bulan puasa tahun 2010 adalah momentum bagiku. Selama setahun lebih aku telah menjajal vespa itu di dalam kota Yogyakarta. Nyaris tidak pernah keluar dari Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta, paling jauh saat itu hanya sampai Klaten. Kupikir aku harus membuat cerita sendiri dengan vespaku ini. Sejak memiliki jok baru, dia kupanggil Vitalia Piaggio. Vitalia tertulis di belakang jok dan Piaggio ialah perusahaan yang membuatnya. Kupikir nama itu cukup keren. Sangat kental bernuansa Italia dan nama itu terkesan seksi, cocok dengan vespaku. Momentum mudik lebaran memang pas untuk menguji kekuatan vespa itu. Pulang kampung merupakan tujuan yang tepat dan dapat memberi motivasi tinggi. Akhirnya, pada H-5 lebaran aku membulatkan tekad untuk pulang ke Jambi dengan vespaku, Vitalia Piaggio. Buku ini adalah sebagian kisah perjalananku bersama Vitalia. Kami berdua menggelandang di jalanan Pulau Jawa dan Sumatra. Menikmati hujan, angin, dan dingin malam bersama. Menempuh ribuan kilometer jalan rata dan berlubang, melewati hutan juga perkampungan. Dalam buku ini, kami berdua berbagi kisah suka duka selama di perjalanan yang melelahkan. Panas terik matahari, hujan, dan dingin angin membuat kami berdua semakin kompak.

We estimate the causal effect of shared e-scooter services on traffic accidents by exploiting the variation in the availability of e-scooter services induced by the staggered rollout across 93 cities in six countries. Police-reported accidents in the average month increased by around 8.2% after shared e-scooters were introduced.Heterogeneity analyses reveal the largest estimated effects for cities with limited cycling infrastructure, while no effects are detectable in cities with high bike-lane density. This difference suggests that public policy can play a crucial role in mitigating accidents related to e-scooters and, more generally, to changes in urban mobility.
