Secret Talks Between Tokyo And Washington written by Kiichi Miyazawa and has been published by Lexington Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with History categories.

Secret Talks Between Tokyo and Washington offers an insider's perspective of the political, economic, and security-related negotiations of Japan and America between 1949 and 1954. Translated by Robert D. Eldridge, for the first time the memoirs of Miyazawa Kiichi reaches a global audience. This book is a critical link to understanding the views and reactions of the Japanese government, both when it was under occupation and then as a newly independent nation, during which time the young, talented, and international-minded Kiichi played a central role. A firm believer in the 'Yoshida Doctrine, ' Kiichi argued that Japan should play a civilian economic role instead of becoming a military power in order to satisfy its ego, a position that occasionally set him apart from his contemporaries. In this book Kiichi offers valuable insight into the bilateral relationship that has evolved between Japan and the United States from the early post war as he describes in detail the many events, personalities, and ideas he came across during his years serving as then-Finance Minister Ikeda Hayato's secretary and his own work in the Upper House. Secret Talks Between Tokyo and Washington is an enlightening text that will appeal to those interested in Asian studies and international relations

What happens when large bugs get trapped on crowded Tokyo trains? How does allergy season affect Tokyo's millions? Ever wonder why Japanese love to take photos together or how everyone feels during rainy season? How is Tokyo made so compact and made as much from imagination as from concrete and steel? Longtime resident, writer and professor Michael Pronko shows just why Tokyo life is equal parts trial and joy. This collection offers up essential skills for living in the vastest, most crowded city in the world-sweating politely, suffering noise and glancing in mirrors--and muses over the minutest of daily details-window flowers, eye contact and small gestures of thanks. If you're traveling to Tokyo, these essays point you toward the undercurrents of life and if you've ever considered visiting Tokyo, these essays will give you more reasons to go. Tokyo's Mystery Deepens brings together essays from Pronko's monthly column in Newsweek Japan, which has remained highly popular with Japanese readers for the last ten years. Originally published in Japanese, these concise, pointed essays are available in English for the first time. As with the first collection, Beauty and Chaos, Pronko examines Tokyo as a city, a culture and an overpowering experience. Tokyo's Mystery Deepens taps into the enigmatic sides of Tokyo with humor, delicacy and a large dose of healthy confusion. Praise for Beauty and Chaos:"e;Japanese who are used to Tokyo are caught off guard by his conclusions derived from careful observation, and are struck dumb...Tokyo, the city we are so careless of, suddenly starts to become glorious. It is a wonder!"e; Chunichi Shimbun (Newspaper) (translated from Japanese version) "e;Giving up the bias and seeing the city with completely different standards, you will see the unexpected, attractive face of Tokyo. This book is a guide for rediscovering Tokyo that lets us see the city with unique new features."e; Nikkan Gendai (translated from Japanese version) Japanese version available from KADOKAWA Publishers as: a E a aa a aeZaaSae-aae*aa a zaaa a a -a -a ae'-)

In the wake of a deadly disaster, Tokyo Metropolitan Police Detective Kenji Nakamura and English translator Yumi Hata suspect a killer has seized a perfect opportunity to commit the perfect crime. After an earthquake strikes Tokyo on the day of Yumi’s wedding, her marriage plans are reduced to rubble. But when the dust settles, it’s discovered that the reason the priest was late is because he was dead. Detective Kenji Nakamura is assigned to investigate, but although all clues point to one of Japan’s most idolized pop stars as the prime suspect, he knows that’s impossible––the idol and her band were swept away in the tsunami following the quake. Will Yumi and Kenji be able to act in time to catch a killer who’s desperate to protect a secret that will rock the Japanese entertainment industry more powerfully than any earthquake? Like the other books in the intriguing Only in Tokyo mystery series, Idolmaker takes you behind closed doors into corners of Japan where few foreigners dare to go, and introduces you to fascinating characters you won’t soon forget. Secret Messages written by David J. Alvarez and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000 with History categories.

To defeat your enemies you must know them well. In wartime, however, enemy codemakers make that task much more difficult. If you cannot break their codes and read their messages, you may discover too late the enemy's intentions. That's why codebreakers were considered such a crucial weapon during World War II. In Secret Messages, David Alvarez provides the first comprehensive analysis of the impact of decoded radio messages (signals intelligence) upon American foreign policy and strategy from 1930 to 1945. He presents the most complete account to date of the U.S. Army's top-secret Signal Intelligence Service (SIS): its creation, its struggles, its rapid wartime growth, and its contributions to the war effort. Alvarez reveals the inner workings of the SIS (precursor of today's NSA) and the codebreaking process and explains how SIS intercepted, deciphered, and analyzed encoded messages. From its headquarters at Arlington Hall outside Washington, D.C., SIS grew from a staff of four novice codebreakers to more than 10,000 people stationed around the globe, secretly monitoring the communications of not only the Axis powers but dozens of other governments as well and producing a flood of intelligence. Some of the SIS programs were so clandestine that even the White House—unaware of the agency's existence until 1937—was kept uninformed of them, such as the 1943 creation of a super-secret program to break Soviet codes and ciphers. In addition, Alvarez brings to light such previously classified operations as the interception of Vatican communications and a comprehensive program to decrypt the communications of our wartime allies. He also dispels many of the myths about the SIS's influence on American foreign policy, showing that the impact of special intelligence in the diplomatic sphere was limited by the indifference of the White House, constraints within the program itself, and rivalries with other agencies (like the FBI). Drawing upon military and intelligence archives, interviews with retired and active cryptanalysts, and over a million pages of cryptologic documents declassified in 1996, Alvarez illuminates this dark corner of intelligence history and expands our understanding of its role in and contributions to the American effort in World War II.
