Addressing the rising security issues during the design stages of cyber-physical systems, this book develops a systematic approach to address security at early design stages together with all other design constraints. Cyber-attacks become more threatening as systems are becoming more connected with the surrounding environment, infrastructures, and other systems. Security mechanisms can be designed to protect against attacks and meet security requirements, but there are many challenges of applying security mechanisms to cyber-physical systems including open environments, limited resources, strict timing requirements, and large number of devices. Designed for researchers and professionals, this book is valuable for individuals working in network systems, security mechanisms, and system design. It is also suitable for advanced-level students of computer science.

Prepared by the Task Committee on Structural Design for Physical Security of the Structural Engineering Institute of ASCE. This report provides guidance to structural engineers in the design of civil structures to resist the effects of terrorist bombings. As dramatized by the bombings of the World Trade Center in New York City and the Murrah Building in Oklahoma City, civil engineers today need guidance on designing structures to resist hostile acts. The U.S. military services and foreign embassy facilities developed requirements for their unique needs, but these the documents are restricted. Thus, no widely available document exists to provide engineers with the technical data necessary to design civil structures for enhanced physical security. The unrestricted government information included in this report is assembled collectively for the first time and rephrased for application to civilian facilities. Topics include: determination of the threat, methods by which structural loadings are derived for the determined threat, the behavior and selection of structural systems, the design of structural components, the design of security doors, the design of utility openings, and the retrofitting of existing structures. This report transfers this technology to the civil sector and provides complete methods, guidance, and references for structural engineers challenged with a physical security problem.

Cryptographic Security Architecture written by Peter Gutmann and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-05-08 with Computers categories.

A cryptographic security architecture is the collection of hardware and software that protects and controls the use of encryption keys and similar cryptovariables. It is the foundation for enforcing computer security policies and controls and preempting system misuse. This book provides a comprehensive design for a portable, flexible high-security cryptographic architecture, with particular emphasis on incorporating rigorous security models and practices. "Cryptographic Security Architecture" unveils an alternative means of building a trustworthy system based on concepts from established software engineering principles and cognitive psychology. Its novel security-kernel design implements a reference monitor that controls access to security-relevant objects and attributes based on a configurable security policy. Topics and features: * Builds a concise architectural design that can be easily extended in the future * Develops an application-specific security kernel that enforces a fully customizable, rule-based security policy * Presents a new verification technique that allows verification from the high-level specification down to the running code * Describes effective security assurance in random number generation, and the pitfalls associated therewith * Examines the generation and protection of cryptovariables, as well as application of the architectural design to cryptographic hardware The work provides an in-depth presentation of a flexible, platform-independent cryptographic security architecture suited to software, hardware, and hybrid implementations. Security design practitioners, professionals, researchers, and advanced students will find the work an essential resource.

Can a system be considered truly reliable if it isn't fundamentally secure? Or can it be considered secure if it's unreliable? Security is crucial to the design and operation of scalable systems in production, as it plays an important part in product quality, performance, and availability. In this book, experts from Google share best practices to help your organization design scalable and reliable systems that are fundamentally secure. Two previous O’Reilly books from Google—Site Reliability Engineering and The Site Reliability Workbook—demonstrated how and why a commitment to the entire service lifecycle enables organizations to successfully build, deploy, monitor, and maintain software systems. In this latest guide, the authors offer insights into system design, implementation, and maintenance from practitioners who specialize in security and reliability. They also discuss how building and adopting their recommended best practices requires a culture that’s supportive of such change. You’ll learn about secure and reliable systems through: Design strategies Recommendations for coding, testing, and debugging practices Strategies to prepare for, respond to, and recover from incidents Cultural best practices that help teams across your organization collaborate effectively

Have you ever wondered why so many companies and their security leaders fail in today's cyber challenges? Regardless if you are new in this role and look for guidance, or you are considering yourself an expert and just wish to verify that you haven't forgotten anything - this book will help you to tackle the subject right - by building "security by design." The content covers your initial phases in the job such as setting expectations, base lining, gap analysis, capabilities building, and org chart variances. It then leads you to define security architecture, addressing a secure development process, application security and also security policy levels. Further items such as awareness programs, asset management, teaming up with audit, risk management, and finally the strategy development are covered. Then we dive into ROIs, trust relationships, KPIs, incident response, forensics, before we run into crises management by looking at some specific examples of personal experience of the author - himself a C(I)SO for many years. The book is ending by providing advice how to deal with other executive management, and what kind of education, certifications, and networking you need to focus on. If you consistently apply the content and advice provided in this book, you should be all set to succeed in your role as C(I)SO.
