Sebagai contoh, Adam Smith yang dihormati sebagai Bapak Ekonomi Barat, terpengaruh oleh Abu Ubaid. Bukunya The Wealth of Nations merupakan terjemahan dari kitab Al-Amwal-nya Abu Ubaid. Dari Kitab Al-Amwal, Adam Smith mengambil teori Invisible Hand-nya. Selain Adam Smith, masih banyak ekonom Barat lain yang teorinya secara jelas dipengaruhi pemikiran ekonomi Islam. Maka dari itu, penulis berupaya menyajikan pemikiran ekonomi Islam sejak Rasulullah Shalallahu alaihi wa sallam hingga pemikir ekonomi Islam kontemporer.
