Die Untersuchung knüpft an die psychiatrische Persönlichkeitsforschung bei affektiven Störungen an und eröffnet zugleich einen neuen methodischen Zugangsweg zur Klärung der Zusammenhangsfrage von Persönlichkeit und depressiver Erkrankung, indem sie Einzelschicksal und Gruppenanalyse verbindet. Mittels der Repertory-Grid-Technik wurden individuumzentrierte Befunde an einer grösseren klinischen Stichprobe depressiv Erkrankter erhoben. Zur Validierung/ Invalidierung der idiographischen Befunde und zur Paardiagnostik wurde als standardisiertes Persönlichkeitsverfahren der Giessen-Test herangezogen. Auf diese Weise wurden die Zusammenhänge zwischen Selbstkonzept, Beziehungskonstellation und Affektlage im symptomarmen Intervall (bei phasischen Verläufen) untersucht. "Objektnähe" und "Idealisierung" erwiesen sich als depressionstypische Merkmale der sozialen Wahrnehmung

This book presents a comprehensive neuropsychodynamic strategy for treating psychiatric disorders. Rather than pursuing an exclusively biological, psychological, or psychodynamic approach, it offers a methodology that links all three aspects in a unifying, integrative model. Central to this approach is the view of the brain as a bio-psychosocial organ in a neuro-ecological model, rather than the purely neuronal model often presupposed in current neuroscience and psychiatry. Moreover, the book views psychopathological symptoms as spatiotemporal disorders of the altered spatiotemporal structure spanning the brain and its surrounding world. The relation between one of the core symptoms and altered neuronal activity calls for the development of integrated, circular neuropsychodynamic models of psychopathological symptoms in severe psychiatric disorders and their treatment.

In der Psychiatrie gewinnen Psychodynamik und Psychotherapie bei Psychosen an Bedeutung. Individuell abgestimmte Therapievariationen werden mit einem neuropsychodynamischen Verständnis möglich und mit vielen klinischen Beispielen plastisch vermittelt. Sowohl gruppen- als auch einzeltherapeutische Vorgehensweisen werden für ambulante und stationäre Bedingungen herausgearbeitet. Teilweise ist Psychotherapie erst auf dem Boden der Pharmakotherapie möglich, und oft ist die Wechselwirkung von Psychodynamik und Psychopharmaka zu beachten.
