The oceans harbor the majority of the Earth´s biodiversity. Marine organisms/microorganisms provide a diverse array of natural products, which are important sources of biologically active agents with unique chemical structures and a broad range of medical and biotechnological applications. The XVI MaNaPro and XI ECMNP conferences aim to present advances and future perspectives on marine natural product research to the scientific community by gathering scientists who work in marine chemistry and related scientific fields from all over the world and at different seniority levels. This Special Issue was organized on the occasion of the 2nd joint XVI MaNaPro and XI ECMNP meeting (http://wmnp2019.ipleiria.pt/) held in Peniche, Portugal, in 2019. It comprises 12 original research articles that exemplify research performed in the scope of the conference topics.

Obesity and related co-morbidities are increasing worldwide and pose a serious health problem. Changes in lifestyle and diet would be the best remedies to fight obesity; however, many people will still rely on medical aid. Marine organisms have been prolific in the production of bioactive compounds for many diseases, e.g., cancer, and promise to be an excellent source for natural-derived molecules and novel nutraceuticals. Bioactive compounds with beneficial activities towards obesity have been described from diverse marine organism including marine algae, bacteria, sponges, fungi, crustaceans or fish. This Special Issue will highlight the progress in the following topics: Bioactive compounds for the treatment of obesity and obesity-related co-morbidities (diabetes, fatty liver, hyperlipidemia) from marine organisms; the isolation of novel compounds, the bioactivity screening of marine organisms and the elucidation of molecular mode of action of marine bioactive compounds.

This volume contains the lectures presented at the NATO sponsored conference on "Marine Natural Products" held in Jersey, Channel Islands, U. K., October 12-17, 1976. The intent of the organising committee was to encourage a dialogue between organic chemists who study the metabolites of marine organisms and biolo gists, ecologists, and pharmacologists who study the effects of these metabolites on other organisms. A feature of the conference was the three workshop sessions on chemotaxonomy, applications of marine natural products, and chemical communication. The papers presented at the conference contain a mixture of original research in marine natural products and reviews of some of the more important subjects. The biologists were asked to present papers which could initiate new directions for marine natural products research. Their contributions to the meeting were warmly received by the chemists in the audience. Editor Biography: ?smail Y�ksel Gen� is a Ph.D candidate in the Department of fishing and Processing Technology at the University of Suleyman Demirel where he has been faculty member since 2011. ?smail Y�ksel completed his M.Sc. at Suleyman Demirel University and he has been in Portugal for the research of his M.Sc. thesis. He has been in Denmark for his Ph.D thesis at Denmark Technical University (DTU) with a national grant that was provided by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK). His research interests involve predictive modeling, shelf life prediction of seafood and interaction models to determine both the quality and safety of fishery products under different conditions. He has collaborated national and international projects on determination of quality and safety of seafood products, new product development and estimating the current situation of some fishery products to take precautions on quality and safety. He is still a member of scientific associations such as ISEKI-Food and International Association for Food Protection (IAFP). He has currently authored and co-authored seven peer-reviewed publications and attended more than twenty peer-reviewed national and international conferences. Book Description: Seafood and related products have an important place in the human diet; it provides for the protein needed and has a nutritional composition that has favorable health impacts on human beings. Considering the rapid increase in the world population and the demand in terms of protein needs that are provided by seafood, the necessary need to assure the quality and safety of seafood products has been prioritized. Due to nutritional composition, neutral pH, high moisture content, weak connective tissue and living environment (fresh and seawater), seafood is very perishable. Maintaining the quality and safety of seafood needs higher attention compared to other food products. This handbook compiles recent methods and applications, as well as technologies utilized to guarantee the quality and safety of various types of seafood from harvesting to the retail level. Every three years, the International Society for Arterial Chemoreception (ISAC) arranges a Meeting to bring together all of the major International research groups investigating the general topic of oxygen sensing in health and disease, with a prime focus upon systemic level hypoxia and carotid body function. This volume summarises the proceedings of the XIXth meeting of the Society, held in Leeds, UK during the summer of 2014. As such this volume represents a unique collection of state of the art reviews and original, brief research articles covering all aspects of oxygen sensing, ranging from the molecular mechanisms of chemotransduction in oxygen sensing cells such as the carotid body type I cells, to the adverse, reflex cardiovascular outcomes arising from carotid body dysfunction as seen, for example, in heart failure or obstructive sleep apnoea.
