One of the most important German artists of the twentieth century, Max Beckmann was labeled a "degenerate artist" by the Nazis and chose exile. His artistic production encompassed the realism and figural themes of his early works to the provocatively blunt portraiture, critical urban views, and richly layered symbolic works for which he is now universally recognized. Although he was a prolific writer, his written work has never before been collected and translated into English. Beckmann is known for the depth, pungency, and tremendous sensuous force of his works; only in the last twenty years have we come to learn more about his personal life. Self-Portrait in Words maps out Beckmann's life and draws attention to the occasions on or for which he produced his writings, to the importance writing had for him as a form of expression, and to both the contemporary and personal references of his ideas and images.

One of the most important German artists of the twentieth century, Max Beckmann is known for the depth and sensuous force of his works, but little is known about his personal life. Self-Portrait in Words reveals Beckmann's experience of life from the first years of his career in Berlin and Paris through his final years in the United States. This collection of Beckmann's writings serves as a companion to his art and a testament to the complexities of his life. "Barbara Copeland Buenger . . . has done an excellent job of editing and annotating Beckmann's voluminous private and public writings."—Andrea Barnet, New York Times Book Review

It is never easy to grow into yourself. To become. The delicate and artful process of curating an identity can be a daunting thing, at times even traumatizing. Relayed as an assorted collection of memoirs and poetry, Wet Sand in an Hourglass debuts as a portrait of rising womanhood and an ode to sensitivity, to healing, to love. These are stories for girls, though they are not (and do not pretend to be) universal.

"e;...The subject looking in the mirror is ego. Opposite ego is the self, whose thinking has a different rhythm and order. The initial 'mirror encounter' ego observes passively and the encounter offers an opening for ego to use its cognitive understanding, to make decisions and act. Ego observing the image in the mirror illustrates the expression that the ego looks into the depth of the soul. Ego looks at the true self, which resides in the soul, in the head or in the person's personality. The 'mirror encounter' invites the passive, observing ego to become active and look deeply inside...."e;This book presents a year's long study, where the researcher-artist engages herself within the activity of self-portrait drawing, facing the products and employing them both as research instruments and theme. This book introduced the unique research method, which is described as "e;art-based research"e;, further shedding a new, broad light on the common phenomenon, known as 'self-portrait drawing'.

Art Workshop For Children written by Barbara Rucci and has been published by Quarry Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-11-01 with Juvenile Nonfiction categories.

Art Workshop for Children is not just another book of straightforward art projects. The book's unique child-led approach provides a framework for cultivating creative thinking and encourages the wonder that comes when children are allowed to freely explore the creative process and their materials. As children work through these open-ended workshops, adults are guided on how to be facilitators who provide questions, encourage deep thinking, and help spark an excitement for discovery. Children explore basic materials and workshops that use minimal supplies, and then gradually add new materials to fill the art cabinets as well as new skills and more complex workshops. Most workshops are suitable to preschool-aged children, and each contains ideas for explorations and new twists to engage older or more experienced artists. Interspersed throughout are sidebar essays that introduce perspectives on mess-making, imperfection, the role of adult, collaborative art, and thoughts on the Reggio Emilia method, a self-guided teaching philosophy. These pieces underscore the value of art-making with children, and support the parent/teacher/care-giver on how to successfully lead, question, and navigate their children through the workshops to result in the fullest experiences.
