The purpose of this study was to determine if self-recording and self-evaluation increased student motivation. Two seventh grade keyboarding classes were involved in this study. Group One (the control group) and Group Two (the experimental group) were given a typing pretest and survey. An eight week timeline was formed or Group Two who received one typing test per week for eight weeks. Group Two was required to record their score and evaluate their progress. Group one was notrequiredd to record their progress but still took the typing tests. At the end of the eight weeks Group One and Group Two took a typingpost testt and the scores were compared. The research data supported the hypothesis that self-recording and self-evaluation would increase student motivation and performance. Overall, Group Two showed more improvement in their typing skill when compared to Group One.
