The devil isn’t always in the details. If you’re really lucky, sometimes he’s also in your bed… Adrianne Riddick is far from normal. But her latest psychic vision, the one of her death, is weird even for her. To stop it from coming true, she’ll need help from her family of supernatural hunters. She’ll also need to avoid Gabriel Malek, her first love. The demon who shattered her young heart. But as complicated as all that is, her life doesn’t really go to hell (literally) until a new enemy shows up and knocks Adrianne and Gabriel into another dimension. (Long story) Now, if they want to get home and stop Adrianne’s vision, they need to work together—all while dealing with the fact that her unrequited feelings for Gabriel aren’t exactly unrequited anymore. Yeah…his timing could be better. So, what’s a vampire hybrid, misfit of magic to do when her happily ever after—and, you know, her life—is on the line? She’ll get back to you on that… Semi-Fated is book 8 in the Harper Hall Investigations paranormal romance series. You could read it as a stand-alone, but it definitely works best if you've read the rest of the series, starting with Semi-Charmed. It also works best if you like strong, kick-ass heroines and the sometimes befuddled alpha heroes who love them. You also might want to skip this one if you don't have a healthy appreciation for characters who cuss, and snark. Lots and lots of snark. The increasing production of industrial goods, heat, and energy, as well as traffic, has led to the release of considerable amounts of toxic trace metals to the atmosphere. The result is elevated concentrations of toxic metals in local populations and eco systems. Recently the problem of atmospheric long-range transport of trace metals has also been recognized. Significant amounts of these pollutants are disposed and deposited both on regional and global scales. In the atmosphere they may influence the chemical reactions. Of particular interest is their catalytic effect on the oxidation prosesses taking place in water droplets or on the surface of wet particles (e. g. the oxidation of sulphur dioxide to sulphate), however, the main environmental impact starts when the atmospheric trace metals are deposited on ground and vegetation and subsequently brought into the water circulation. During the later years significant progress has been made in the development of equipment to reduce and control the atmospheric emissions of toxic trace metals. This particularly applies to electrostatic precipitators and wet scrubbers for the collection of fine particles. The main objective of the workshop was to survey present knowledge concerning the sources, atmospheric fluxes, sinks and chemical impact of the atmospheric trace metals, and to review the developments of emission control equipment and the perspectives to reduce the potential risks from toxic metals. During the first two days of the meeting, 15 invited review papers were presented.

This open access book examines the depiction of Korean history in recent South Korean historical films. Released over the Hallyu (“Korean Wave”) period starting in the mid-1990s, these films have reflected, shaped, and extended the thriving public discourse over national history. In these works, the balance between fate and freedom—the negotiation between societal constraints and individual will, as well as cyclical and linear history—functions as a central theme, subtext, or plot device for illuminating a rich variety of historical events, figures, and issues. In sum, these highly accomplished films set in Korea’s past address universal concerns about the relationship between structure and agency, whether in collective identity or in individual lives. Written in an engaging and accessible style by an established historian, Fate and Freedom in Korean Historical Films offers a distinctive perspective on understanding and appreciating Korean history and culture.

This study is a theoretical reconsideration of the concept of the “tragic” combined with detailed analyses of Japanese literary texts. Inspired by contemporary critical discourse (especially the works by such thinkers as Theodor Adorno, Fredric Jameson and Raymond Williams), the author challenges both exotic and postmodern representation of Japanese culture as “the other” of the West. By examining the social backgrounds of artists’ endeavors to create new literary forms, the author unveils a rich tradition of tragic literature that, unlike the dominant local tradition of naturalism, has registered the unbridgeable gap between universal ideals and social values at a particular historical moment.
