Freud tambi�n procur� unir su teor�a del inconsciente propuesta en la Interpretaci�n de los sue�os (1899) y su trabajo sobre la histeria postulando a la sexualidad como la fuerza pulsional tanto en la neurosis (por medio de la represi�n) como en la perversi�n (por medio de la operatoria de la desmentida de la castraci�n). Tambi�n inclu�a los conceptos de envidia del pene, complejo de castraci�n y complejo de Edipo.

The history of sexual morality in Ireland has been traditionally associated with repression. In the last two decades, however, repression seems to have given way to its exact opposite. But where did this "repression" originate? And how can we account for this sudden and sweeping transformation in sexual mores? Based on solid ethnographic and historical analysis of sexual morality in rural Ireland, augmented by comparative data from Papua New Guinea, and being informed by from Freud's emblematic concept of repression, the author draws new conclusions that not only apply to the specific case of his Irish material but shed new light on the specific nature of an anthropological approach to the study of human societies.

A dream in which a man has sex with his mother may promise him political or commercial success--according to dream interpreters of late antiquity, who, unlike modern Western analysts, would not necessarily have drawn conclusions from the dream about the dreamer's sexual psychology. Evidence of such shifts in perspective is leading scholars to reconsider in a variety of creative ways the history of sexuality.
