“A healthy dose of action, a strong thread of humor and just a touch of romance” (VOYA, starred review). A teen who is half-god, half-human must own her power whether she likes it or not in this snappy, snarky novel with a serving of smoldering romance that Kirkus Reviews calls “a dark, slyly funny read.” Zephyr Mourning has never been very good at being a Harpy. She’d rather watch reality TV than learn forty-seven ways to kill a man, and she pretty much sucks at wielding magic. Zephyr was ready for a future pretending to be a normal human instead of a half-god assassin. But all that changed when her sister was murdered—and Zephyr used a forbidden dark power to save herself from the same fate. On the run from a punishment worse than death, an unexpected reunion with a childhood friend upends Zephyr’s world—and not only because her old friend has grown surprisingly, extremely hot. It seems that Zephyr might just be the Nyx, a dark goddess that is prophesied to shift the power balance: for hundreds of years the half-gods have lived in fear, and Zephyr is supposed to change that. But how is she supposed to save everyone else when she can barely take care of herself?

The past provides a blueprint for the present and promises hope for the future. Many Christians struggle to understand Old Testament teachings. We look at the laws and rituals and wonder how those long-ago practices could possibly be relevant to our lives now. Randy Robison believes they are not only necessary but are, in fact, vital to a closer walk with Jesus. In The Age of Promise, Robison introduces us to ten foundational promises made in the Old Testament and transformed in Christ, ten mysteries now revealed in Jesus that offer us a deeper, more powerful relationship with the Father. These ten promises, which bring God’s intricate plan of redemption to fulfillment, include: The promise of deliverance The promise of the chosen people The promise of the temple And much, much more! When we learn from the past and apply it to the present, we determine our future. The Age of Promise invites us to uncover the glorious riches of our heritage of faith and experience real transformation in our everyday lives. With the light of Christ shining on the shadows of the past, we develop a more complete perspective and discover a deeper, more powerful relationship with the eternal Father who is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

In it, Kaelen is a young girl who is given great power and an unavoidable responsibility—to protect the world from an unimaginable threat. But Kaelen must fight not only to defeat her enemies, but also to understand who she really is and whether she can control the power that nearly consumes her. At first, Kaelen sees herself as merely part of a predetermined destiny. But as the story progresses, she begins to learn that courage lies not only in physical combat, but also in facing the darkness within herself—and in a world full of secrets. A grand conflict of courage, sacrifice, and learning from past mistakes creates a story that is not only epic but also deeply emotional. With each chapter, you will be taken on a journey filled with suspense and emotion. Through the relationships between the main and supporting characters, and the unraveling of mysteries along the way, this story will invite readers to ponder big questions about identity, destiny, and change.

A distinguished group of authors here illuminate a broad spectrum of themes in the history of biblical interpretation. Originally published in 1990, these essays take as their common ground the thesis that the intellectual and religious life of the sixteenth century cannot be understood without attention to the preoccupation of sixteenth-century humanists and theologians with the interpretation of the Bible. Topics explored include Jewish exegesis and problems of Old Testament interpretation and the relationship between the Bible and social, political, and institutional history. Contributors. Irena Backus, Guy Bedouelle, Kalman P. Bland, Kenneth G. Hagen, Scott H. Hagen, Scott H. Hendrix, R. Gerald Hobbs, Jean-Claude Margolin, H. C. Erik Midelfort, Richard A. Muller, John B. Practices And Principles written by Mark Tunick and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-03-09 with Philosophy categories.

A Japanese woman living in California attempts parent-child suicide, an ancient Japanese custom called "oyako-shinju," in order to rid herself of shame upon learning that her husband has a mistress. She survives, but her two children are drowned in the attempt. Since her attempt was made in accordance with the standards of Japanese culture, should she be tried by the standards and laws of the United States? Are there universally valid moral principles that dictate what is right? Or are moral judgments culturally relative, ultimately dictated by conventions and practices that vary among societies? In Practices and Principles, Mark Tunick takes up the debate between universalists and relativists, and, in political philosophy, between communitarians and liberals, each of which has roots in an earlier debate between Kant and Hegel. Tunick focuses on three case studies: promises, contract law, and the Fourth Amendment issue of privacy. In his analysis, he rejects both uncritical deference to social practice and draconian adherence to principles when making legal and ethical judgments. He argues that we do not always need to choose between abstract principles and social practices. Sometimes we appeal to both; sometimes we need to appeal to shared social norms; and sometimes, where there is no ethical community, we can appeal only to principles. Ultimately, Tunick rejects simplified arguments that force us to choose between either practices or principles, universalism or relativism, and liberalism or communitarianism.
