A story so incredible it can only be true. Adventure, deadly passion and intrigue... History's most enduring mystery... A love story that may have inspired a beloved fairy tale and Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet... Known as Shakespeare's villain, Richard III is also the king who gave mankind "Blind Justice" and the legal concepts that flowered into modern Western democracy. Against the sweep of England's fifteenth century Wars of the Roses, Love & War, the first book in The Rose of York series, recreates Richard's tumultuous early years and his love affair with Anne Neville, the traitor's daughter he made his queen. With a Foreword by Roxane C. Murph, M.A., Former Chairman, Richard III Society, and author of Richard III: The Making of a Legend

Seminar paper from the year 2015 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 2,0, University of Bonn, language: English, abstract: William Shakespeare is one of the most important English authors, his plays are well known today although he lived in the 16th century. Especially his love dramas enjoy great popularity. This paper deals with his comedy „A Midsummer Night's Dream“. Nearly everybody knows the famous sentence Lysander says to Hermia: „The course of true love never did run smooth“ (MND I.i.134). Love is the main theme in this play and this sentence mirrors the love between the four Athenian lovers very well. The flower 'love-in-idleness' screws up the whole love constellation as well as Egeus, Hermia's father, who does not allow his daughter to marry the man she loves. Throughout the play love is presented with a huge range of metaphors and it acquires new shapes. It is notable that those metaphors who describe the love in the play are metaphors of nature. The moon, the image of inconstancy is often used to show the inconstancy of love between the four Athenian lovers caused by the magic flower. Furthermore, love is linked to the eyes, but it is misleading, however, to conclude that there is a simple association between love and beauty, just because the eyes are linked to love. Besides Shakespeare shows the power of love between the protagonists. Love is not only a feeling, it changes the perception.

A public and highly popular literary form, English Renaissance drama affords a uniquely valuable index of the process of cultural transformation. The Expense of Spirit integrates feminist and historicist critical approaches to explore the dynamics of cultural conflict and change during a crucial period in the formation of modern sexual values. Comparing Elizabethan and Jacobean dramatic representations of love and sexuality with those in contemporary moral tracts and religious writings on women, love, and marriage, Mary Beth Rose argues that such literature not only interpreted sexual sensibilities but also contributed to creating and transforming them.

Shakespeare And Platonic Beauty written by John Vyvyan and has been published by Shepheard-Walwyn Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013 with Literary Criticism categories.

Looking at some of the Shakespearean comedies, author John Vyvyan suggests they express a consistent, profoundly Christian philosophy of life based on the Platonic ideas of beauty and love. In A Midsummer Night's Dream, As You Like It, and All's Well That Ends Well, the heroines bring to life the idea of love as the force that is awakened in the world by beauty which then leads the soul to perfection. Vyvyan believes that for Shakespeare, love was preeminent over human ideas of justice, that self-discovery was a supreme human experience, and that breaking faith with the ideal--as Agamemnon, Cressida, and Hector all do in Troilus and Cressida --sowed the seeds of tragedy. The author's recognition of Shakespeare's use of allegory enables him to make sense of certain developments in these plays that seem weak or absurd from the psychological standpoint. He does not suggest that Shakespeare's philosophy is the most important thing about his plays; it is simply one thing about them that ought to be known. The recognition of this philosophy enhances enjoyment of the plays, giving them a new dimension and richness. This edition contains a list of the author's Shakespearean references and an enhanced index.
