In Induction Malfunction: Leaving Teachers Behind, Dr. Leonid Chernyak, utilizing his investigative reporting skills, showcases what happens to novice teachers, specifically at a Florida charter middle school, when a mentored induction program is purposefully and neglectfully disbanded. The study - which took almost an entire school year to chronicle, research, and exhaustively reference is seen through the points of view of three novice teachers who, despite efforts to (a) collaborate, (b) grow professionally together, and (c) take lessons learned from the first year into the next, witness first hand (a) how easily promises made can be broken, (b) how easily the building of collaborative bridges can be burned, and (c) how hard incorporating highly regarded education theories into practice can be. Dr. Leonid Chernyak is a former member of the Society of Professional Journalists and the National Honor Society. He has appeared twice in Who's Who Among American High School Students and was honored by the Florida Department of Education for his writing. At the University of Florida, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in print journalism and a Master of Arts degree in Mass Communication. At Argosy University, he earned an Education Specialist degree and a Doctor of Education degree, both in curriculum and instruction. Dr. Leonid Chernyak has, so far, worked as a freelance reporter, a substitute teacher, a language arts instructor and tutor, a translator, a collector, and a customer relations representative. His philosophy of life revolves around breaking routine, a team spirit, thinking outside the box, questioning everything, reading between the lines, standing up against the few who rule the many, not limiting yourself to others' criticisms, and taking a world view of everything. His first book, Breaking Routine: A cosmic outlook on our comic world, was published in 2005.

Transforming Public Education features nineteen cases that profile entrepreneurs who are pursuing opportunities to create pattern-breaking social change in our public schools. For nearly two decades, education entrepreneurs have been working to transform the K-12 public education system in the United States. "Social entrepreneurship" has become part of the language of a new generation of idealists, many of whom are focused on education. The nineteen cases in this book profile entrepreneurs who are pursuing opportunities to create pattern-breaking social change in our public schools--in particular, by creating high-quality educational opportunities for low-income and minority students who are dramatically underserved by the current public education system. Based on a popular course developed and taught at the Harvard Business School, this casebook is organized into four modules: Understanding the Context of Urban Schooling in the United States Tackling the "People Problem" Focusing on Performance Launching and Growing New Schools Students are invited to explore four overarching questions: Why are there opportunities for entrepreneurs in a sector that is funded with public dollars and delivered by public agencies? Why is entrepreneurial activity aggregating around certain opportunities? What are the possibilities and constraints faced by entrepreneurs in each opportunity area? How can we evaluate the impact of these entrepreneurs' efforts?

`I used McIntire and Miller′s book on testing in my research course two years ago. Students loved this book for its clarity and personality. It is hard to imagine how the authors could have improved on the First Edition. Nevertheless, this new edition of the Foundations of Psychological Testing is better than any of its competitors. The authors should be congratulated for making a topic that has been formidable to students in the past much more accessible to today′s students′ - Douglas Herrmann, Emeritus Professor, Indiana State University, Director of Research, Practical Memory Institute The Second Edition of Foundations of Psychological Testingis a scholarly, yet pragmatic and easy to understand text for undergraduate students new to the field of psychological testing. Using an engaging, conversational format, the authors aim to prepare students to be informed consumers as test users or test takers not to teach students to administer or interpret individual psychological tests. New to the Second Edition: Incorporates new content: This edition includes a new chapter on computerized testing and is updated throughout to reflect new research, tests, and examples. Offers new learning strategies: To further promote student comprehension, new and enhanced learning aids include a `blueprint′ of text material, `In the News′ and `On the Web` boxes, `Test Spotlights`, and an `Engaging in the Learning Process` section at the end of each chapter with learning activities, study tips, and practice test questions. Encourages instruction through conversation: In response to students′ requests to simplify complex concepts, the authors use an easy-to-read, conversational style. This format clearly and concisely communicates the basics of psychological testing and relates these basics to practical situations that students can recognize and embrace. Instructor Resources on CD are available to qualified adopters including chapter outlines, discussion questions, teaching tips, review questions, and more!
