Enlargement Of The European Union written by Allan F. Tatham and has been published by Kluwer Law International B.V. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-01-26 with Law categories.

The development of EU enlargement has raised many thorny issues unanticipated by the framers of the EC Treaty. A significant upshot of these issues is that the concept of European identity – defined in terms of such factors as culture, history and economics – has supplanted the long-dominant theme of ‘widening and deepening,’ particularly since the Union’s expansion has become primarily eastward. The major contribution of this important book lies in its analysis of the conceptualization and perception of enlargement from various points of view, focusing on the concerns of stakeholders and the ‘identity’ conflicts and uncertainties incurred by enlargement initiatives. In the course of its presentation, it details the actual pre-accession Europeanization process and its complex history. Among the key elements discussed are the following: the conflict between ‘widening’ and ‘deepening’ and the effect on EU institutional reform; institutional requirements on candidate countries; pre-accession criteria and negotiations; administrative capacity, judicial capacity, and legal approximation in accession states; capacity of the EU to absorb new Member States; and EC law as part of European identity. Also covered are specific historical details of particular pre-accession negotiations (e.g., Greece, Spain, Portugal, Malta, and Cyprus), the still inconclusive negotiations with Turkey and the Western Balkan states, and political factors involved in the non-accession of Norway, Iceland and Switzerland. Assembling powerful evidence and applying incisive analysis, the author’s conclusion shows that, absent further (and major) EU institutional reform, it will be difficult for an enlarging Union to continue to ‘deliver the goods.’ A watershed in the continuing great debate on the fulfilment of the EC Treaty’s determination to foster and promote ‘an ever closer union of the peoples of Europe,’ this book will prove invaluable to anybody interested in the European integration project, particularly lawyers, academics, officials and policymakers in the EU Member States.

The objective is to assist human rights education efforts worldwide. The book's thematic modules on selected human rights issues cover topics such as: the prohibition of torture, freedom from poverty, human rights of women and children, human rights in armed conflict, freedom of expression, and democracy. New to this updated edition are chapters reflecting current trends in human rights, including new modules on privacy (such as challenges posed by Internet use), minority rights, and the right to asylum. Translations of the earlier editions already exist in 15 languages, among them all the official United Nations languages. Understanding Human Rights has become a basic text for human rights education and training in different countries, on different levels, and for different audiences, from university lectures in China to NGO training in Mali to police training in Kosovo.

During the last two decades transnationalism has become an important conceptual approach and research programme. However, the term has steadily become vague and indistinct underlining the need for conceptual précising as well as more defined empirical research. Rethinking Transnationalism does this in two ways. On one hand it presents theoretical contributions to the transnationalism approach and, on the other hand, it offers empirical studies in the field of the transnationalization of organizations. The book integrates outstanding international scholars of transnationalism and migration studies with specialists from a broad variety of disciplines that apply the transnationalism approach to different organizations such as NGOs, feminist networks, educational spaces and European Works Councils. Presenting an overview of transnationalism and the surrounding debates, this interdisciplinary volume will be of interest to students and scholars of Politics, International Relations, Sociology, Anthropology, Educational Sciences, Migration and Geography.

Public Administration In The Frg written by International Institute of Administrative Sciences. German Section and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1983 with Law categories.

The public administration in Germany has been described as one of the world's 'classic administrative systems'. It was on German soil that one of the prime examples of the efficient service structure in public affairs originally developed which is so characteristic of the modern state. In view of the cracks in recent German history the continuing efficiency of public administration is considered remarkable. In addition German scholars - from Max Weber to Fritz Morstein Marx - whose works have attracted attention from far beyond the confines of Germany, have contributed to the establishment of basic academic principles for an international discussion of administrative phenomena. But even in Germany the negative aspects of state bureaucracies have not gone unobserved and criticism from abroad of our particular political system has not exactly spared our public administration either. In some places ideas may persist that no longer match the reality of state and administration in today's Federal Republic of Germany.
